Given the prevalence and risk of antibiotics advantages anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process, this study evaluated compared mainstream sidestream anammox process performance in treating wastewater containing typical β-lactam antibiotic under microaerobic conditions. The was able to tolerate higher concentrations cefalexin relatively low dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, while DO slightly reduced nitrogen removal efficiency but it still than 70%. In contrast, exhibited a poor tolerance stress. Combined with metagenomics transcriptomics, comparative analysis 154 high-quality metagenomic assembly genomes consortia revealed potential mechanism mitigating Results showed that expressions genes related dissimilatory nitrate reduction ammonia were significantly upregulated condition. As dominant functional bacteria, Candidatus Kuenenia stuttgartiensis HNU0043 had detoxification ·O2– metabolism secondary product H2O2, which mainly depended on cooperation Fe–Mn family superoxide dismutase catalase. Expressions involved various carbon pathways also detected Ca. HNU0043, explaining resistance stress through biodegradation. Therefore, tolerated conditions, more beneficial for maintaining its stability. This work provides insights into molecular mechanisms underlying microbiota adaptability oxygen, further expending implementation process.

This study explores the effectiveness of an integrated anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) coupled with anoxic/oxic (A/O MBR) for treatment natural rubber industry wastewater high sulfate, ammonia, and complex organic contents. was conducted at lab-scale over a duration 225 days to thoroughly investigate efficiency sustainability proposed method. With hydraulic retention time 6 total system, COD reductions were 98%, which reduced influent from 22,158 ± 2859 mg/L 118 74 effluent. The system demonstrates average NH3-N, TN, phosphorus (TP) removal efficiencies 72.9 5.7, 72.8 5.6, 71.3 9.9, respectively. Despite whole biological 50.6%, reactor eliminated 44.9% raw WW sulfate. Analyses fouling revealed that more pronounced in membrane, whereas aerobic displayed varied profiles due differential microbial oxidative activities. Key bacterial genera, such as Desulfobacterota stage nitrifiers stage, are identified instrumental processes. profile reveals shift methanogenesis sulfide-driven autotrophic denitrification sulfammox, evidence active pathway anaerobic/anoxic conditions. showcases its potential industrial application, underpinning environmental through improved management.
