The feasibility of a synergistic endogenous partial denitrification-phosphorus removal coupled anammox (SEPD-PR/A) system was investigated in modified anaerobic baffled reactor (mABR) for synchronous carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus removal. mABR comprising four identical compartments (i.e., C1–C4) inoculated with precultured denitrifying glycogen-accumulating organisms (DGAOs), polyphosphate-accumulating organisms, bacteria. After 136 days operation, the chemical oxygen demand (COD), total efficiencies reached 88.6 ± 1.0, 97.2 1.5, 89.1 4.2%, respectively. Network-based analysis revealed that biofilmed community demonstrated stable nutrient performance under oligotrophic conditions C4. metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) such as MAG106, MAG127, MAG52, MAG37 annotated phosphorus-accumulating (DPAOs) MAG146 DGAO were dominated C1 C2 contributed to 89.2% COD consumption. MAG54 MAG16 Candidatus_Brocadia (total relative abundance 16.5% C3 4.3% C4) responsible 74.4% nitrogen through anammox-mediated pathway. Functional gene based on metagenomic sequencing confirmed different capable performing distinct functions specific advantageous microbial groups, facilitating targeted Additionally, conditions, activity bacteria-related genes hzs higher compared hdh. Thus, an innovative method treatment low-strength municipal nitrate-containing wastewaters without aeration presented, mediated by process less land area excellent quality effluent.
