Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) represent a significant challenge to environmental systems due their extensive presence in everyday consumer products and industrial processes, resulting the contamination of water soil sources consequent negative impact on human health. This review aims provide comprehensive overview current approaches potential for mitigating these persistent substances. By exploring technological advances remediation PFAS, this intends contribute understanding appropriate technologies mitigate risks associated with PFAS. focusing combined treatment strategies, synergistic approaches, advanced tools, addressing knowledge gaps, more efficient, sustainable, reliable can be developed management contaminants interest. PFAS, or per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, are a broad group of man-made organic compounds that very persistent, mobile, tend to bioaccumulate. Their removal from different environmental media is becoming increasingly important because they associated with multitude (eco)toxicological effects on both humans the environment. PFAS detected in wastewater, groundwater, drinking water, surface subcategories PFOS PFOA being most detected. These divided into polymeric non-polymeric groups. Non-polymeric great research interest due their frequent detection Numerous methods have been applied for destructive non-destructive (separation) techniques. Given strength C–F bond, destruction challenging, while separation techniques, management isolated requires further consideration. Most techniques small-scale applications show some limitations larger applications, even though promising. Adsorption an environmentally sustainable, economical, high-performance technique remove several classes emerging pollutants water. In this review, use various types adsorbents water reported, as well expected adsorption mechanisms. There technologies considered developed manage PFAS; however, still experimental stage, each showing its appeal potential applications.
