Heavy metal pollution has become an increasingly serious environmental issue, making the detection of heavy metals essential for safeguarding public health and environment. This review aims to highlight commonly used methods detecting (such as atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), emission (AES), inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV), etc.), with a particular focus on electrochemical electrode modification materials. Metal nanomaterials titanium dioxide (TiO2), copper oxide (CuO), ZIF-8, MXene, etc.) are emphasized promising candidates enhancing performance sensors due their high surface area excellent catalytic properties. However, challenges such interference from non-target ions formation organometallic complexes organic compounds can complicate process. To address these issues, two potential solutions have been proposed: development advanced algorithms machine learning (ML), back-propagation neural network (BPNN), support vector machines (SVM), random forests (RF), signal processing use pretreatment Fenton oxidation (FO), ozone oxidation, photochemical oxidation) suppress interferences. paper metals, emphasis techniques. It will also faced in methods, sensitivity limitations, propose innovative solutions, including improved sensor integration techniques enhance accuracy.
