Social information gathering is a complex process influenced by neuroendocrine-modulated neural plasticity. Oxytocin (OXT) key regulator of social decision-making processes such as gathering, it contextually modulates salience and can induce long-term structural plasticity, including neurogenesis. Understanding the link between OXT-induced plasticity communicative awareness crucial, particularly because OXT being considered for treatment pathologies. We investigated role chronic OXT-dependent in attention to novel manipulating duration time following cessation intranasal allow functional integration adult-born neurons resulting from treatment. Following 3-week delay, (IN-OXT) increased approach behavior both female male mice towards aggressive vocal playbacks two unseen conspecifics, while no effect was observed after 3-day delay. Immature ventral hippocampus females males treated with IN-OXT indicating potential association hippocampal neurogenesis approach/acoustic eavesdropping. The less mouse approached, higher level Contrary expectations, correlation not affected IN-OXT, suggesting that other mechanisms underlie effects on approach. Furthermore, we found negative freezing behavior. Overall, our results demonstrate IN-OXT-induced influence further reinforced anxiety.

Abstract Songbird vocal behavior, physiology, and brains—including neurogenesis—change between seasons. We examined seasonal differences in neurogenesis three brain regions associated with production learning, HVC (letter‐based proper name), robust nucleus of the arcopallium (RA), Area X, two auditory perception, caudomedial nidopallium (NCM) mesopallium (CMM). To do this, we captured wild male female European starlings ( Sturnus vulgaris ) spring fall, collected a blood sample, minimized time from capture to tissue collection limit suppressive effects captivity on neurogenesis. quantified using doublecortin (DCX) immunohistochemistry, counting new neurons DCX cell morphologies (multipolar, fusiform, round). found regional types expressed, amount across regions: NCM had more fusiform cells than all other regions, RA round regions. Males fall spring, but there was no difference females, perhaps reflecting sexually dimorphic learning demands related repertoire size complexity. Plasma corticosterone higher correlated testis volume males, it not another purported measure stress, heterophil:lymphocyte ratio (HLR), nor Our results suggest that addition specific circuits may serve different functions for males particularly context production, perceptual

Neohelice is a long-standing model for memory studies its strong retention of reduced escape response when trained to iterative presentations visual danger stimulus (VDS). Here we present year-round changes that are related the acquisition, storage, and expression. First, evaluated exploratory activity VDS, as necessary acquisition Both parameters change year-round. Second, short-term (STM) two types long-term (LTM) were assessed throughout year. STM context-dependent signal (CSM) between periods year, whereas (SM) does not, indicating cognitive abilities crab display circannual rhythms. Third, during reproductive period, higher than both CSM SM, trade-off LTM. This first report changing seasonally short- memories.
