Reproductive activity in animals is regulated by variations plasma levels of steroid hormones, which respond to both geophysical and social-environmental cues. Changes testosterone (T) play a crucial role coordinating the morphological, physiological, behavioral adaptations among males, orchestrating gonadal recrudescence regression response seasonal shifts environmental factors. Although these reproductive neuroendocrine processes have been extensively examined various bird species, they remain largely unexplored owls. The Tropical Screech Owl widely distributed across Central South America, it exhibits regional timing chick hatching. This study hypothesized that male Owls (Megascops choliba) exhibit fluctuations corresponding expression genes, potentially linked activity, including presence semen. To investigate this reproduction, group seven adult owls was monitored for 14 consecutive months under ex-situ conditions. These underwent cloacal electrostimulation subsequent massage collect semen, as well blood sampling measure serum T levels. aromatase (CYP19A1), androgen receptor (AR), estrogen (ESR1 ESR2) genes also assessed hypothalamic tissues from four reproductively active non-reproductive males collected in-situ wild population. Serum were significantly higher July August, coinciding with sperm. No significant difference observed tissue transcripts versus males. However, exhibited AR ESR1 at level. results confirm seasonality M. choliba during winter season São Paulo State.
