As November 2023, known to consist 427 species belonging 20 orders, 37 families, 97 genera. Among these, 21 (4.9%) are alien, 215 (50.4%) considered endemic Türkiye. The orders with largest numbers in Cypriniformes (297 species, 69.6%), followed by Cyprinodontiformes (26 6.1%), Salmoniformes (25 5.9%), Gobiiformes (20 4.7%), Siluriformes (13 3.0%), Clupeiformes (9 2.1%). At family level, Leuciscidae has greatest number (126 species; 29.8% total species), Nemacheilidae (63 14.8%), Cyprinidae (59 13.8%), Cobitidae (29 6.8%), Salmonidae Aphanidae (23 5.4%), Gobiidae Gobionidae (15 3.5%). According IUCN Red List criteria, among 403 naturally distributed (alien not included), four fish extinct, 99 (24.4%) classified as threatened extinctions, including 28 (6.9%) CR, 44 (10.8%) EN, 27 (6.7%) VU. After latest published 2020, a 56 26 newly identified from 30 new records documented Turkish waters, were added. By way, 17 have been excluded, mostly because synonymization.

The Ohrid trout, Salmo letnica, is an endemic species of Lake Ohrid, one Europe's oldest lakes, located on the Albania-North Macedonia border. This exhibits distinct morphotypes-Salmo letnica typicus, aestivalis, balcanicus, and lumi-that differ in morphology spawning behaviour. However, extent their genetic differentiation remains unclear. study aimed to investigate variability population structure morphotypes using mitochondrial Control Region as molecular marker. We obtained 127 sequences from compared them with other within genus Salmo. Phylogenetic clustering analyses revealed no significant structuring among four morphotypes, suggesting ecological not (yet) fixed at level. Additionally, our findings suggest that modern likely originated farioides founders through evolutionary differentiation, potentially driven by environmental changes. Future studies incorporating a larger number samples both are essential fully understand dynamics morphotypes.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) metagenomics sequences all molecules present in environmental samples and has the potential of identifying virtually any organism from which they are derived. However, due to unacceptable levels false positives negatives, this approach is underexplored as a tool for biodiversity monitoring across tree life, particularly non-microscopic eukaryotes. We SeqIDist, framework that combines multilocus BLAST matches against several reference databases followed by an analysis sequence identity distribution patterns disentangle while revealing new increasing accuracy metagenomic approaches. tested SeqIDist on eDNA dataset riverine site compared results those obtained with metabarcoding benchmarking purposes. start characterising biological community (~2000 taxa) life at low taxonomic show higher sensitivity than discovering diversity. limited representation whole genome can lead positives. Here, we characterized putatively neutral adaptive genetic variability population structure brown from six river catchments central peninsular Italy, as revealed both mitochondrial (Control Region) nuclear (microsatellites, LDH-C1, major histocompatibility complex) markers. We quantified admixture wild populations hatchery evaluated effects on shaping genetics. Our analyses indicated: (1) composite picture area, presence all lineages (“Adriatic”, “Mediterranean”, “marmoratus”), various frequencies allochthonous genotypes different rates introgression among sampling sites; (2) asymmetric mito-nuclear introgression; (3) increasing marker diversity levels across populations; (4) strong coupled relatively low effective size. Data allowed identification five management units propose specific actions ongoing future conservation strategies within examined area.
