Accurate respiratory monitoring is of great significance in assessing and analyzing physical health, preventing diseases. The recently emerged wearable sensors are confronted with the challenges such as complex fabrication processes, limited accuracy, stringent wearing requirements. We developed a deep learning–based extraction of electrocardiographic (ECG) waves from ballistocardiographic (BCG) signals and explored their use in R–R interval (RRI) estimation. Preprocessed BCG reference ECG were inputted into the bidirectional long short-term memory network to train model minimize loss function mean squared error between predicted (pECG) genuine signals. Using dataset acquired with polyvinylidene fluoride sensors different recumbent positions 18 participants, we generated pECG preprocessed using learned evaluated RRI estimation performance by comparing obtained signal leave-one-subject-out cross-validation scheme. A absolute (MAE) 0.034 s was achieved for beat-to-beat accuracy. To further test generalization ability trained short-term-recorded dataset, collected long-term overnight recordings 12 participants performed validation. The correlation 0.82 ± 0.06 an average MAE 0.046 s, showing practical measurement RRIs. These results suggest that proposed approach can be used continuous heart rate monitoring home environment.
