Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are critical components of innate immunity in animals and plants, exhibiting thrilling prospectives as alternatives to traditional antibiotics due their ability combat pathogens without leading resistance. Among these, Human Neutrophil Peptide-1 (HNP-1), primarily produced by human neutrophils, exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria viruses. However, the clinical application HNP-1 has been hampered challenges associated with mass production inconsistent understanding its bactericidal mechanisms. This review explores structure function HNP-1, discussing gene expression, distribution, immune functions regulatory elements controlling production, alongside insights into mechanisms potential applications an agent. Furthermore, highlights biosynthesis using microbial systems a cost-effective alternative extraction recent studies revealing HNP-1's endogenous mechanism. A comprehensive working methods will pave way for effective utilization combating antibiotic-resistant infections.
