Abstract Background Most studies on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic depression burden focused earlier phase specific to lockdowns, but longer-term is less well-studied. In this population-based cohort study, we examined short-term and long-term impacts incidence healthcare service use among patients with depression. Methods Using territory-wide electronic medical records in Hong Kong, identified all aged ≥ 10 years new diagnoses from 2014 2022. We performed an interrupted time-series (ITS) analysis examine changes medically attended before during pandemic. then divided into nine cohorts based year studied their initial ongoing patterns until end applied generalized linear modeling compare rates diagnosis between newly diagnosed A separate ITS explored prevalent Results found immediate increase (RR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.10–1.33, p < 0.001) population after began non-significant slope change, suggesting a sustained effect Subgroup showed that increases were significant adults older population, not adolescents. Depression used 11% fewer resources than pre-pandemic first year. Pre-existing also had decrease 16% overall all-cause since pandemic, positive change indicating gradual rebound over 3-year period. Conclusions During provision for was suboptimal face increased demand generated by increasing Our findings indicate need improve mental health resource planning preparedness future public crises.

Background Clozapine is widely regarded as a highly efficacious psychotropic drug that largely underused worldwide. Recent disproportionality analyses and nationwide case-control studies suggested potential association between clozapine use hematological malignancy (HM). Nevertheless, the absolute rate difference not well-established due to absence of analytic cohort studies. The clinical significance such risk remains unclear. Methods findings We extracted data from territory-wide public healthcare database January 2001 August 2022 in Hong Kong conduct retrospective study anonymized patients aged 18 + years with diagnosis schizophrenia who used or olanzapine (drug comparator similar chemical structure pharmacological mechanisms) for 90 days, at least 2 prior other antipsychotic records within both groups. Weighted by inverse probability treatment (IPTW) based on propensity scores, Poisson regression was estimate incidence ratio (IRR) HM users. also estimated. In total, 9,965 median follow-up period 6.99 (25th 75th percentile: 4.45 10.32 years) were included, among which 834 After IPTW, demographic characteristics users comparable those had significant weighted IRR 2.22 (95% confidence interval (CI) [1.52, 3.34]; p < 0.001) compared estimated 57.40 CI [33.24, 81.55]) per 100,000 person-years. Findings consistent across subgroups age sex. Sensitivity all supported robustness results showed good specificity but no cancers. main limitation this observational residual confounding effects could have arisen lack randomization use. Conclusions Absolute associated small despite 2-fold elevated rate. Given rarity existing blood monitoring requirements, more restrictive indication special warnings may be necessary.

ABSTRACT Background Although psychiatric disorders have been associated with reduced immune responses to other vaccines, it remains unknown whether they influence COVID‐19 vaccine effectiveness (VE). This study evaluated risk of hospitalization and estimated mRNA VE stratified by disorder status. Methods In a retrospective cohort analysis the VISION Network in four US states, rate laboratory‐confirmed COVID‐19‐associated between December 2021 August 2022 was compared across diagnoses monovalent vaccination status using Cox proportional hazards regression. Results Among 2,436,999 adults, 22.1% had ≥1 disorder. The incidence higher among patients any versus no (394 vs. 156 per 100,000 person‐years, p < 0.001). Any (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.27; 95% CI, 1.18–1.37) mood (aHR, 1.25; 1.15–1.36), anxiety 1.33, 1.22–1.45), psychotic 1.41; 1.14–1.74) were each significant independent predictors hospitalization. disorder, aHRs for association 0.35 (95% 0.25–0.49) after recent second dose, 0.08 0.06–0.11) third 0.33 0.17–0.66) fourth unvaccinated patients. Corresponding estimates 65%, 92%, 67%, respectively, similar (68%, 79%). Conclusion Psychiatric increased However, provided protection regardless status, highlighting its benefit individuals disorders.

People who use drugs (PWUD) are at a high risk of contracting and developing severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) other infectious diseases due to their lifestyle, comorbidities, the detrimental effects opioids on cellular immunity. However, there is limited research vaccine responses in PWUD, particularly regarding role that T cells play immune response acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Here, we show before vaccination, PWUD did not exhibit an increased frequency preexisting cross-reactive SARS-CoV-2 that, despite inhibitory have T-cell immunity, standard vaccination can elicit robust polyfunctional CD4+ CD8+ were similar those found controls. Our findings indicate stimulates effective highlight targeted as essential public health instrument for control COVID-19 this group high-risk patients.

Abstract People with COVID-19 can experience post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC). Studies on risk factors PASC outcomes are ongoing, especially for endocrine system-related diseases that may impact the cardiovascular system. Cardiac-related is one burdens after infection. This study aimed to examine cardiac-related PASC. In this nested case-control study, we obtained electronic health records (EHRs) database from Hong Kong Hospital Authority. We defined cases as patients at least and controls without any applied incidence density sampling matched age sex a 1:10 ratio. Multivariable conditional logistic regression was used determine associations between A total 455 individuals 3,423 were in underlying cohort.
