Most approaches to estimate ecological value use monetary valuation. Here, we propose a different framework accounting in biophysical terms. More specifically, are implementing the ecosystem natural capital as an operational adaptation and extension of UN System Economic Environmental Accounting/Ecosystem Accounting. The proof-of-concept study was carried out at Rhône river watershed scale (France). Four core accounts evaluate land use, water condition, bio-carbon content various stocks biomass its uses, state infrastructure. Integration indicators allows measuring ecosystems overall capability their degradation. 12-year results based on spatial–temporal geographic information local statistics. Increasing levels intensity registered over time, that is, extraction resources surpasses renewal. We find agriculture artificialisation main drivers

The ongoing degradation of fragile ecosystems increasingly diminishes the availability natural resources. Consequently, conservation and utilization ecosystem assets have emerged as a focal point global research. This study focuses on integrating agroforestry (AEA) with their capacity to provide services, aiming explore interconnections enhance optimization. We employed comprehensive literature review method, utilizing Scopus database select, analyze, include 61 pertinent studies AEA globally. systematic results show following: (1) overall number published papers is showing an upward trend, indicating that research in this field gradually expanding. geographical focus primarily Europe Asia, academic institutions being main contributors (2) Landmark findings are mainly concentrated areas identification, quantitative assessment, decision management. Among these, assessment focus, while management, influencing factors relatively limited explores relevant key scientific questions. (3) above information highlights for improvement karst desertification control ecosystem, focusing two aspects: habitats human–land relationships. Furthermore, furnishes essential recommendations practitioners policymakers across various regions, emphasizing critical need thoroughly evaluate leverage connections between quantity quality assets. Such approach pivotal facilitating strategic restructuring optimization ecosystems. This, turn, aims elevate sustainability ability services (ES).

The lexical analysis of seminal policy-to-diplomacy documents from the socio-environmental discourse last fifty year agendas allowed examining evolution five themes: resources/waste, pollution, social and economic development, justice, health. Contextual affinities were strongest between resources, health are linked to societal trends pressures. On those grounds, central role resource stewardship according nature’s physical limits is highlighted, dedicated concepts, analytical frameworks, methodologies with different degrees sustainability analyzed. To reframe identified problems, work proposes criteria choices that (1) allow compare dynamics socioecological states across planet, (2) help matching pace change by addressing path dependencies through participation engagement communities, (3) enable stakeholders make trade-offs take decisions in specific social, economic, political, cultural contexts. prioritization justice responsibility becomes a project : Wellfare State commonfare communities.

The lexical analysis of seminal policy-to-diplomacy documents from the socio-environmental discourse last fifty years agendas has allowed examining contextual affinities between resources, pollution, and health. central role resource stewardship, according to nature’s physical limits, is highlighted in context boundary systems for biosphere societies, carrying capacity inclusive systemic health (one health, planetary …). To reframe a rather fragmented conceptual methodological landscape, this work proposes choices that consider core values, purpose, best practice developments, allowing us compare dynamics socioecological states across planet specific social, economic, political, cultural contexts. prioritization justice responsibility becomes societal project, embedding economy social ecological frames through institutional reframing tangible action on management, pollution control, outcomes. How? By recognizing primacy law life—the adequacy basic needs accessible resources all— over rules market socioecosystemic checks balances.

West Africa, already highly influenced by the negative effects of climate change, is additionally characterized rapid population growth, endemic poverty, and insecurity. This affecting natural capital its ecosystems services they provide. Natural accounting (NCA) provides fundamental evidence base required for informing economics environmental decisions, thus strengthening conservation management resources. The objective this study to showcase development evaluation a semi-automated NCA platform (Sys4ENCA) designed support decision making in context protected areas multi-level example western Africa. results highlight that simulations at broader scale using national public data show Africa depends strongly on mean variability. Evaluating regional datasets, simulation with shows pressure land combination weak governance reduces capability ecosystem deliver sustainable manner, i.e., eastern part Bafing-Falémé landscape, where mining intensive agriculture are fueling loss capital.
