Stressful life events (SLEs) are tightly coupled with the emergence of anxiety and depression symptoms among adolescents, but mechanisms underlying this relationship remain poorly understood. We investigated within-person fluctuations in emotion regulation as a mechanism linking SLEs internalizing psychopathology an intensive longitudinal study. examined how monthly were related to engagement three strategies—acceptance, reappraisal, rumination—and whether these strategies associated changes adolescents followed for one year (N=30; n=355 observations). Bayesian hierarchical models revealed that on months when experienced more than was typical them, they also engaged rumination, which, turn, higher mediated prospective between symptoms. In contrast, greater use acceptance reappraisal moderated association stressors symptoms, resulting stronger links These results suggest play different roles stress-psychopathology relationship. Understanding contribute increases following experiences stress may provide novel targets interventions aimed at reducing stress-related psychopathology.

Self-criticism is a trait associated with increased psychopathology, but self-criticism also personality state reflecting an action that people do in moments of time. In the current study, we explored factors heightened daily life. Participants (N = 197) received five random prompts per day for one week on their mobile phones, where they reported affect (negative and positive affect), willpower self-efficacy, distress intolerance, degree support criticism from others, context (location, activity, hunger, tiredness) momentary self-criticism. We first demonstrated varies over time across contexts, Then, using multilevel modelling, contextual greater found was higher when were at home, more tired. to be negative lower affect, perceived others. addition, predicted subsequent lagged analyses. Difficulty knowing when to switch emotion regulation (ER) strategies is theorized be a key pathway dysregulation, but relatively few studies have empirically examined this. We applied new order-based metric quantify how N=109 socially anxious people switched between 19 different ER (or chose not regulate at all) throughout 5-week ecological momentary assessment study yielding 12,616 observations. tested whether state and trait anxiety reports, their interaction, predicted differences in strategy switching. Results indicated that with higher social symptoms more often during periods of high average less variability than people. Interventions focused on helping learn are connected variations might hold promise increase adaptive switching decisions. More broadly, expanding interventions consider the role changing situations an important next step.

Abstract School counselors in South Korea are prone to emotional exhaustion due job demands. To develop effective interventions for managing this exhaustion, it is essential examine the relationship between emotion regulation strategies (ER), such as suppression and reappraisal, exhaustion. Using a daily diary method Random Intercept Cross‐Lagged Panel Model (RI‐CLPM), study explored how fluctuations ER interact over 5 workdays with 111 school counselors. Results showed that persisted time carry‐over effect, while did not carry across days. Suppression mutually influenced each other time, higher levels linked greater following day specific context. Reappraisal context‐dependent effects, sometimes alleviating but occasionally exacerbating These findings emphasize need context‐sensitive interventions.
