Stressful life events (SLEs) are tightly coupled with the emergence of anxiety and depression symptoms among adolescents, but mechanisms underlying this relationship remain poorly understood. We investigated within-person fluctuations in emotion regulation as a mechanism linking SLEs internalizing psychopathology an intensive longitudinal study. examined how monthly were related to engagement three strategies—acceptance, reappraisal, rumination—and whether these strategies associated changes adolescents followed for one year (N=30; n=355 observations). Bayesian hierarchical models revealed that on months when experienced more than was typical them, they also engaged rumination, which, turn, higher mediated prospective between symptoms. In contrast, greater use acceptance reappraisal moderated association stressors symptoms, resulting stronger links These results suggest play different roles stress-psychopathology relationship. Understanding contribute increases following experiences stress may provide novel targets interventions aimed at reducing stress-related psychopathology.

Abstract Switching between different emotion regulation strategies may promote mental health by helping match strategy use to situations. However, switching very frequently might undermine any given attempt. Individuals with high levels of self-reported neuroticism have trouble finding the right balance versus persistence increased negative emotionality and impulsivity; yet it is unclear whether this difficulty characterized too much switching, little or both. As such, we tested low rates within daily life was associated trait neuroticism. We quantified how N = 89 college students switched 20 regulate positive emotions when sampled three times for 10 days. linear quadratic effects switching—when measured across all emotion- emotion-focused strategies, smaller classes related strategies—were found that lower amongst used emotions, specifically adaptive engagement higher Moderate aversive cognitive perseveration contrast, not at overall class level. This pre-registered study suggests unique patterns in response negative—but necessarily positive—emotions life.

Traditional research often categorizes emotion regulation strategies as adaptive or maladaptive, overlooking crucial situational and individual differences that dictate their efficacy. The literature highlights the need for a more nuanced approach, like role of flexibility. Despite its importance, on developing testing interventions promote this flexibility is scarce. Addressing gap, our study designed tested an "Emotion Regulation Flexibility Booster Program" (ERFBP). We aimed to assess efficacy in improving (ERF) impact various mental health indicators.

In hoofdstuk gaan we dieper beide visies illustreren zeven klinische groepen: depressie, school-burn-out, angst, eetstoornissen, obesitas, verslaving gedragsproblemen.
