Abstract Children’s externalizing behaviors are associated with impairments across the lifespan. Developmental psychopathology theories propose transactional (bidirectional) associations between child and parenting during childhood adolescence. Yet, these foundational relations in early not well-studied. Utilizing a large, mixed-sex sample, we examined reciprocal nature of using robust repeated-measures models. Repeated measures data were drawn from socioeconomically diverse, longitudinal pregnancy cohort 1287 (64% Black, 31% White) mother-child dyads at four time points (ages one to six). Three variables included cross-lagged panel models: observed quality, symptoms, maternal risk composite. In covariate-adjusted models, higher quality Wave 1 predicted lower symptoms 2. Higher 2 3, respectively. Maternal significantly associated. Findings showed both parent-driven child-driven effects that did vary by sex. The parent-child relationship begins infancy, underscoring importance screening provision supports for families minimize prevent development serious psychopathology.

Early-life adversity increases the risk of health problems. Interventions supporting protective and responsive caregiving offer a promising approach to attenuating adversity-induced changes in stress-sensitive biomarkers. This study tested whether participation an evidence-based dyadic psychosocial intervention, child-parent psychotherapy (CPP), was related lower epigenetic age acceleration, trauma-sensitive biomarker accelerated biological aging that is associated with later impairment, sample children trauma histories. Within this quasi-experimental, repeated-measures study, we examined acceleration at baseline postintervention low-income receiving CPP treatment (

Abstract This commentary discusses opportunities for advancing the field of developmental psychopathology through integration data science and neuroscience approaches. We first review elements our research program investigating how early life adversity shapes neurodevelopment may convey risk psychopathology. then illustrate three ways that techniques (e.g., machine learning) can support research, such as by distinguishing between common diverse outcomes after stress exposure. Finally, we discuss logistical conceptual refinements aid moving forward. Throughout piece, underscore profound impact Dr Dante Cicchetti, reflecting on his work influenced own, gave rise to

Our aim is illustrate number DP's core principles in context (a) prospective longitudinal research on children (particularly girls) with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (b) theoretical empirical work dedicated alleviating stigma discrimination toward those experiencing mental health, substance use, neurodevelopmental challenges.
