Using the Schiff base ligand H2L-pyra (N′-(2-hydroxybenzoyl)pyrazine-2-carbohydrazonamide) with multiple dentate sites, trinuclear DyIII-based complex [Dy3(HL-pyra)2(L-pyra)2(CH3COO)3]·2H2O (1) was synthesized. By analyzing fragmented assembly process and fine-tuning bridging anions, [Dy4(HL-pyra)2(L-pyra)4(NO3)2(H2O)2]·8H2O (2) different nuclear numbers successfully Magnetic studies demonstrated that 1 did not exhibit magnetic relaxation behavior under external field; however, 2 exhibited zero-field single-molecule an effective energy barrier (Ueff) of 197.44 K. This is attributed to improved anisotropy single ion after normalization crystal structure, thus realizing molecular switching. Moreover, dilution analysis weak interaction between metal ions inhibited occurrence quantum tunneling magnetization (QTM), resulting in high-performance magnet (SMM) behavior. The reasons for difference these two complexes were analyzed using ab initio calculation magneto-structural correlations. study provides a reasonable prediction ideal configuration approximately parallelogram SMMs, offering approach synthesizing Dy4 excellent properties.

It is still challenging for Dy-MOFs to modulate the single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior through guest molecules. with different molecules, secondary building units, and linkers were synthesized by precursors bridging carboxylic acid ligands, magnetic properties of regulated These differentiated are [Dy2(C9H4Cl2NO)2(L1)2(H2O)(DMA)]n·DMA (MOF-3, L1 = terephthalate), [Dy(C9H4Cl2NO)2(L1)(DMSO)(H2O)]n (MOF-4), [Dy2(C9H4Br2NO)2(L1)2(H2O)(DMA)]n·DMA (MOF-5), [Dy(C9H4Cl2NO)2(L2)(H2O)]n·DMA (MOF-6, L2 isophthalate), [Dy(C9H4Cl2NO)2(L2)(H2O)]n·DMF (MOF-7), [Dy(C9H4Br2NO)2(L2)(H2O)]n·DMA (MOF-8). The single-crystal X-ray diffraction showed that MOF-3 MOF-5 two-dimensional MOFs square holes. MOF-4 a MOF formed hydrogen–halogen bonds, MOF-6, MOF-7, MOF-8 one-dimensional chains. test results show MOF-4, SMM under zero field, exhibit field-induced behavior. In effective energy bases 37.09, 19.56, 15.73 K, relaxation times τ0 4.66 × 10–6, 2.35 9.95 10–6 s, respectively. This work provides vivid example regulating molecular magnetism promotes progress Dy-MOF crystal engineering.
