A longitudinal study of CO2 emission from 79 economies over eight decades has shown that they can be divided into three types: coal dominated, oil and gas or renewable nuclear energies (REN) dominated. Economies beginning their industrialization with will transition first the coal-dominated stage to gas-dominated then REN-dominated stage. Those For each type economy, there are two possible types emitters, those increasing time (polluters) decreasing not (decarbonizers). only have decarboinzers. By assuming current trends continue, target decarbonization rate for economy achieve net zero by 2050 is calculated. Results show groups highest targets. Among available technologies, carbon capture storage (CCS) one allow decarbonize without changing energy mix therefore game changing. Implications our findings discussed.
