Benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BUVSs) are emerging contaminants of concern. They added to a variety products, including building materials, personal care paints, and plastics, prevent degradation caused by (UV) light. Despite widespread occurrence in aquatic environments, little is known regarding the effects BUVSs on organisms. The aim present study was characterize exposure 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-methylphenol (UV-P) reproductive success zebrafish (Danio rerio) following embryonic exposure. Embryos were exposed, use microinjection, UV-P at <1.5 (control), 2.77, 24.25 ng/g egg, reared until sexual maturity, when performance assessed, which molecular biochemical endpoints analyzed. Exposure did not have significant effect fecundity. However, there fertilization success. Using UV-P-exposed males females, fertility decreased 8.75% low treatment group 15.02% high relative control. In reproduction assay with control 11.47% Embryonic might perturbed male sex steroid synthesis as indicated small changes blood plasma concentrations 17β-estradiol 11-ketotestosterone, statistically nonsignificant decreases mRNA abundances cyp19a1a, cyp11c1, hsd17b3. addition, transcript genes involved spermatogenesis, such nanos2 dazl, observed. Decreases later stages sperm development observed, suggesting that impaired spematogenesis, resulting quantity. first demonstrate latent BUVSs, specifically fish reproduction. Benzophenones (BPs) are widely used as photoinitiators (PIs) or printing inks in food packaging, which may migrate into foods. However, the toxicity information of some BP analogues, such 4,4'-bis(diethylamino)-benzophenone (DEAB), 4-phenylbenzophenone (4-PBP), 4 (hydroxymethyl)benzophenone (4-HMBP), those PIs is lacking. Developmental a health concern associated with exposure. Recently, alternative non-in vivo methods have been proposed to evaluate concerned chemicals better understand modes action certain toxicological endpoints. In this study, using silico methods, we predicted that BP, DEAB, 4-PBP and 4-HMBP might exhibit developmental toxicity. found only DEAB strong embryotoxic disturbs early differentiation mouse embryonic stem cells three germ layers cardiomyocytes. treatment also prevented cardiomyocyte human induced pluripotent (hiPSCs) on day 10. had no similar effects Transcriptomic analysis revealed significantly decreased mRNA levels differentiation-related transcription factors SOX17 FOXA1, hiPSCs 4. Furthermore, caused tail malformations yolk sac edema zebrafish embryos. To conclude, be because it cells. Further studies warranted
