<p>Cyanobacterial blooms, occurring frequently in eutrophic freshwaters worldwide, are considered as potential hazards to ecosystems and human health, it is often difficult expensive control their outbreaks large lakes through reduction of nutrient loadings. Biomanipulation, launched an ecology-based solution the 1970s, was once believed be effective way counteract cyanobacterial blooms. It divided into traditional biomanipulation (TB) nontraditional (NTB) that use filter-feeding <i>Daphnia</i> fish, respectively. There have been numerous reviews on former, yet few latter. Here, we first revisit debate digestibility cyanobacteria silver bighead carp. Then, review 42 experiments clearly mention changes reveal substantial reductions abundance by carp 88% cases. In particular, a whole-lake experiment Lake Donghu, increased stock effectively decreased <i>Microcystis</i> blooms from coverage 87% 2021 0% 2022. Finally, discuss possible factors related NTBs effectiveness depends not only standing stock, niche divergence shape preference fish but also trophic status waterbodies. Particularly, feed more colony-forming than filamentous cyanobacteria, capable increasing small-sized algae. NTB can used prevent or diminish poorly grazed <i>Daphnia</i>, providing sustainable in-lake ecotechnology combat heavy waterbodies.</p>

<p> Sustainable development depends on the integration of economy, society, and environment. Yet, escalating environmental challenges pose threats to both society economy. Despite progress in addressing issues promote sustainability, knowledge gaps scientific research, technological advancement, engineering practice, policy persist. In this review, we aim narrow these by proposing innovation-based solutions refining existing paradigms. Reviewing past research actions, first elucidate evolution sustainability science essence sustainable its assessment. Secondly, summarize current major issues, including global warming climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation desertification, pollution, as well their relationships with achievement Development Goals (SDGs). Subsequently, review critically evaluates role innovations science, technology, engineering, (iSTEP) synergies advancing SDGs. While sequential may vary based specific contexts or scenarios within iSTEP framework, each component reinforces others, fostering continuous improvement. Finally, offers recommendations future perspectives for formulating roadmaps. Recommendations include a vision promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, encouraging transboundary cooperation among stakeholders endeavors.</p>

This study evaluates the impact of precipitation on water quality in Heidelberg, Germany’s recreational lakes during sporadic rainfall events from August to September 2023. Data were collected five stations, monitoring physicochemical properties and nutrient levels before after rainfall. Measurements dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, redox potential conducted situ, while turbidity, nitrates, phosphates, sulphates, zinc, copper analyzed SRH Heidelberg laboratory. Findings indicate pH increased due dilution effects, conductivity rose runoff, enhancing ion concentration lakes. Dissolved oxygen also increased, attributed aeration rainfall-induced surface turbulence. Redox decreased, reflecting atmospheric dissolution. Nutrient concentrations, including nitrates along with declined post-rainfall, suggesting a effect without significant runoff. outcome implies absence major sulphate sources upstream. Heavy metals like zinc decreased concentration, indicating no introduction through runoff or sediment transport. The underscores variability parameters across different lakes, influenced by factors such as sources, surrounding land use, geological conditions, lake characteristics. Overall, improved making suitable for activities, establishing non-linear correlation among deducing P ratio each parameter.
