Marine clams are an important country food with high nutritional value while being a route of human exposure to metals. The fresh- and salt-water interface in estuaries may impact metal speciation, leading changes bioavailability bioaccumulation clams. We evaluated which environmental variables correlate best total mercury (THg), methylmercury (MeHg), the sum rare earth elements (ΣREEY) by soft-shell clam (Mya arenaria) at mouth two contrasting rivers. measured essential non-essential elements, nine arsenic (As) species assess consumption risks benefits consumers. Results showed that near coast higher DOC dammed Romaine River yielded THg, MeHg, ΣREEY concentrations than collected undammed Mingan River. Clams more exposed saline waters, as inferred from carbon (δ13C) sulfur (δ34S) isotopic signatures, had lower bioaccumulation. Positive correlations were identified between THg sediments, well both matrices, suggesting transfer this compartment through filter feeding. evaluation intake indicated good source iron (Fe) selenium (Se). More 40 % As organic forms arsenobetaine (AsB). Therefore, monthly portion 188 g for elderly adults pregnant or childbearing women 94 children should not lead elements.
