Abstract Adsorption of typical pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) (such as naproxen, ibuprofen oxybenzone) from aqueous solutions was studied by using the highly porous metal-organic framework (MOF) MIL-101 with without functionalization. results showed that MIL-101s H-donor functional groups such –OH –NH 2 were very effective for naproxen adsorption, despite a decrease in porosity, probably because H-bonding between O atoms on H adsorbent. For this reason, two capable (MIL-101-(OH) ) exhibited remarkable adsorption capacity based adsorbent surface area. The favorable contributions –(OH) increased oxybenzone (especially porosity) confirmed again importance mechanism. highest capacity, MIL-101-OH, competitive when compared carbonaceous materials, mesoporous pristine MIL-101. Moreover, MIL-101-OH could be recycled several times simply washing ethanol, suggesting potential application adsorptive removal PPCPs water.
