Abstract Municipally sourced biosolids are commonly used as cost‐effective fertilizers, diverting material from landfills and contributing to the circular economy. However, contain high concentrations of microplastics (MPs), which emerging contaminants concern due their ubiquity in environment. Despite this, there is a lack environmentally relevant field studies. In 2022, composite topsoil samples (0–15 cm depth) were collected seven agricultural fields Southern Ontario, Canada, representing chronosequence biosolid applications ranging 1 9 years since amendment control (untreated) field. MP particles down 20 μm size extracted by density separation, enumerated, characterized stereomicroscope polymers identified using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) spectroscopy. Here, we report on characteristics, abundance polymer type study area assess fate biosolid‐amended soils. The average concentration among was 6.87 ± 1.47 g −1 (3.43 0.74 mg kg ). Additionally, soil pool increased with repeated biosolids. dewatered plastic content 8816 1809 dry weight (11.6 17.5 weight) estimate mean loading 94.5 10.9 ha each per application, suggesting that 7% persisted over time. Quantifying will inform evidence‐based policy changes our global effort understand reduce pollution.
