ABSTRACT In the environment, nanoplastics (NPs) have been shown to adversely impact reproductive health, yet research on their effects during early pregnancy is scarce. This study investigated of NPs endometrial decidualization in pregnant mice and fertility. Female were administered polystyrene (PS‐NPs) orally for 90 days before pregnancy. Our findings indicated that PS‐NPs exposure decreased live birth rate neonatal crown‐rump length. Decreased embryo implantation sites uterine wet weight observed post exposure. Histological examination revealed structural defects uteri a significant reduction follicular count across all stages PS‐NPs‐treated groups. Serum levels estradiol (E 2 ) progesterone (P) elevated, while follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) luteinizing (LH) diminished post‐exposure. Additionally, upregulated expression marker HOXA10 decidua. conclusion, our results suggest may disrupt disruption likely due perturbation hormonal balance within hypothalamic–pituitary–ovary including FSH, LH, E , P levels. These alterations arrest development, consequently leading detrimental outcomes compromised conditions. provided new perspective understanding possible microplastics female

Viscosimetric experiments and microscopy measurements on microdispersions of polycaprolactone (PCL) plastics showed an unexpected exponential decrease in viscosity over the first 3 months a plateau for further 4 observations. This behavior is due to release nanoplastics from semicrystalline particles that reduce dispersion, leave stable fine crystalline microplastics ranging size 30 180 μm. The development nonlinear kinetic models fragmentation process macro- meso-, micro-, reveals complex we call cracking–leaching mechanism. autocatalytic mechanical cracking macroplastics larger than 5 mm followed by logistic-type mesoplastics between 1 mm. Seagrass beds are significant sinks for microplastics. However, the degradation of seagrass poses challenges, and evidence regarding its impacts on microplastic remains scarce. In this study, sediment cores were collected to investigate stock composition, carbon, organic carbon in Zostera japonica bed adjacent degraded area a lagoon Swan Lake, China. The (84.5 ± 18.5 million particles ha -1 ) was found significantly higher than (51.8 0.6 ), resulting release 38.7% buried microplastics reactivated water column. Micro- and nanoplastics are globally important environmental pollutants. Although research in this field is continuously improving, there a number of uncertainties, inconsistencies methodological challenges the effect assessment micro- nanoparticles freshwater systems. The current understanding adverse effects partly biased by use non-relevant particle types, unsuitable test setups environmentally unrealistic dose metrics, which does not take into account realistic processes uptake consequent effects. Here we summarize state art compiling most recent with aim to highlight gaps further necessary steps towards more harmonized testing In particular, ecotoxicological scenarios need mirror diversity bioavailability. Harmonized should include different pathways, exposures comparisons natural reference particles. Effect assessments differentiate direct physical effects, such as lesions toxicity caused polymer, from indirect alterations ambient conditions leaching, change turbidity, food dilution organisms' behavior. Implementation these suggestions can contribute harmonization effective, evidence-based nanoplastics.
