Various naphthalenediimide (NDI) based electron donor-acceptor coordination polymers (D-A CPs) have been constructed and used to explore charge transfer (CT) (ET) behaviors. Up now, significant progress has made in the interface contact ability matching mechanism, while electronic density effect of donors on CT ET behaviors is still not known. Herein, two NDI-based D-A CPs, [Cd2(H2NDI)(IPA)2(H2O)2] (1) [Cd2(H2NDI)(IPA-OH)2(H2O)2] (2), are using an ligand aromatic carboxylic acid ligands (H2NDI = 2,7-bis(3,5-dimethyl) dipyrazol-1,4,5,8-naphthalene tetracarboxydiimide, H2IPA isophthalic acid; H2IPA-OH 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid). UV-vis EPR spectroscopy DFT calculations analyses reveal that occurrence themal (TET) 1 2 results from HOMO IPA IPA-OH lying higher than LUMO NDI. Meanwhile, compared 1, absorption spectrum exhibits a red shift, which suggests donor more pathways beneficial for intermolecular CT. After UV light irradiation, comparison photochromic behavior confirms negative stronger photoinduced (PET). The present study illustrates delicate modulating CPs.

By the combination of N,N'-bis(carboxymethyl)-pyromellitic diimide (H2CMPMD, 1) and zinc ions, a novel PMD-based coordination polymer (CP), [Zn(CMPMD)(DMF)1.5]·0.5DMF (2) (DMF = N,N'-dimethylformamide), has been prepared characterized. 1 2 exhibit completely different photochromic properties, which are mainly reflected in photoresponsive rate (5 s for vs 2) coloration contrast (from colorless to light green 2). This phenomenon should be attributed introduction ions consequent formation distinct interfacial contacts electron donors (EDs) acceptors (EAs) (dn-π 3.404 3.448 Å dn-π 3.343, 3.359, 3.398, 3.495 2), suggesting subtle modulating effect metal on contacts, photoinduced intermolecular transfer (PIET) behaviors. Interestingly, performance can enhanced after removal coordinated DMF, might ascribed decrease distance EDs/EAs caused by lattice shrinkage, further improves efficiency PIET. Meanwhile, displays rapid electrochromic behavior with an obvious reversible color change from green, used device. work develops new type EA construction stimuli-responsive functional materials excellent dual photo-/electrochromic properties.
