Cyclopentadienyl anions ([Cp]−) are pervasive ligands in coordination chemistry. In contrast, heavy-element derivatives of these ligands, particularly those that feature arsenic, not as well developed. this work, a new arsenic-based heterocycle with structure analogous to [Cp]− is presented. Reaction K3As7 benzyl azide (BnN3) leads fragmentation the [As7]3– core and C–H activation two [BnN] units give five-membered arsenic [As(NC(Ph))2]−. This was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance UV–vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, its electronic investigated computationally.
