Background:
The
gut–brain
axis
(GBA)
is
a
complex
bidirectional
communication
system
that
links
the
gastrointestinal
tract
and
central
nervous
system.
Essential
oils
(EOs)
have
emerged
as
promising
natural
compounds
capable
of
modulating
this
axis.
Methods:
A
comprehensive
analysis
recent
literature
was
conducted,
focusing
on
studies
investigating
effects
EOs
GBA.
Particular
attention
given
to
endocannabinoid
system,
role
cannabis-derived
EOs,
other
plant-based
with
potential
neuroprotective
gut
microbiota-modulating
effects.
Results:
Among
analyzed,
cannabis
essential
oil
(CEO)
gained
for
its
interaction
cannabinoid
receptors
(CBR1

immune
