Pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease of unknown cause, characterized by excessive deposition extracellular matrix, leading to irreversible decline in function and ultimately death due respiratory failure multiple complications. The Sirtuin family group nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) -dependent histone deacetylases, including SIRT1 SIRT7. They are involved various biological processes such as protein synthesis, metabolism, cell stress, inflammation, aging through deacetylation. This article reviews the complex molecular mechanisms poorly studied SIRT3, SIRT6, SIRT7 subtypes latest research progress targeting them treat fibrosis.
