Abstract Synthesis of imidazo[2,1‐ b ][1,3]benzothiazoles by oxidative coupling 2‐aminobenzothiazoles with vicinal diol was reported. Expectedly, a combination potassium persulfate and TEMPO oxidized ethylene glycol to α‐hydroxy acetaldehyde, which coupled 2‐aminobenzothiazole afford 2,3‐unsubstituted ][1,3]benzothiazoles. The later exploited as reliable handle access 3‐substituted regioselectively.

N-Heterocycles, such as pyrroles, pyrimidines, quinazolines, and quinoxalines, are important building blocks for organic chemistry the fine-chemical industry. For their synthesis, catalytic borrowing hydrogen acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling reactions of alcohols sustainable reagents have received significant attention in recent years. To overcome problems product separation catalyst reusability, several metal-based heterogeneous catalysts been reported to achieve these transformations with good yields selectivity. In this Minireview, we summarize developments using both noble non-noble synthesize N-heterocycles from N-nucleophiles via dehydrogenation or methodologies. Furthermore, Minireview introduces strategies preparation functionalization corresponding catalysts, discusses reaction mechanisms roles metal electronic states, influence support Lewis acid-base properties on reactions.

A controlled tandem synthetic route to azines from various alcohols and hydrazine hydrate by the use of a Ni(II) complex 2,6-bis(phenylazo)pyridine as catalyst is reported. In marked contrast previous report, reaction operative using an earth-abundant metal catalyst, milder conditions, aerobic which though are desirable but unprecedented in literature. The catalytic has vast substrate scope including single-step synthesis phthalazine 1,2-benzenedimethanol via intramolecular coupling. Mechanistic investigation suggests that coordinated ligand redox controls reversible azo (N═N)/ hydrazo (NH-NH) couple where center used primarily template.
