The release of common medications and illegal drugs into the environment could be potentially harmful to ecosystem hamper behavior growth plants animals. These pollutants gain access water through sewage factory discharges have been found exceed safety limits in bodies. Therefore, there is an urgent need for improved wastewater purification systems. In this study, semiconductor-based heterojunction photocatalyst CuInS2/CeO2, synthesized a facile solvothermal process, was explored photocatalytic degradation ciprofloxacin, commonly used antibiotics. Studies on electronic properties revealed interfacial characteristics that were suitable enhanced charge carrier separation transport potential S-scheme transfer mechanism. achieved ∼90% efficiency CIP compared 60% 12% reported CeO2 CuInS2, respectively. This shows improvement activity, which results from heterojunction. Further investigation mechanism radical scavenging experiments identified •OH, O2•–, h+ as active species contributing catalyst's efficacy. Based X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, proposed suggested CuInS2/CeO2 findings indicate promising treating waste effluents pharmaceutical industry.
