The outbreak of the 2019 coronavirus pandemic has raised worldwide attention about self-protection from airborne diseases. Air filtration and wearing mask have been proven to be effective measures in reducing pathogenic aerosol's transmission. Those lead an increasing demand high-efficient filters. However, nonbiodegradable polymeric materials used filters can accumulate landfills or ecosystems, potentially causing pollution after improper disposals. Sustainable biodegradable alternatives current filter are urgently needed. Yet, very few commercial meet these needs. In this paper, a novel quaternary ammonium-halamine compound containing Schiff base sandwich-structured preparation strategy were developed. obtained multifunctional consists PLA fleece as support layer, antimicrobial coating for bactericidal function, nanofibrous membrane particle removal. demonstrates strong properties, killing 97% Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus at biocide concentration only 1 mg/mL. It rapidly kill bacteria within 5 min contact without leaching substances. Furthermore, it boasts performance with success rate over 99.99% pressure drop 45 Pa, which surpasses that N95 PM0.3. Even under humid conditions, maintains excellent performance. Our reusability testing result developed shows simple halogenation treatment renew halamines restore filter's activity. degrade natural soil. successful development sustainable material offers new alternative high-performance air quality control protect public health.

Postharvest preservation of fruits is one the key issues in current agriculture and food processing industry. Surface coating treatment, a promising technology for postharvest fruit preservation, has gathered significant attention due to its ability reduce water loss, regulate gas exchange, inhibit respiration, thereby achieving preservation. Among them, chitosan-based wide application prospect superior film-forming capability, high biosecurity, range sources, etc. This review summarizes structural features, physicochemical properties, modification strategies, mechanisms coatings, focusing on their applications storage. Unlike prior works, it highlights advanced modifications (e.g., nanocomposite, multifunctional grafting) that enhance antimicrobial activity, mechanical strength, environmental adaptability. Challenges preservation—such as microbial resistance stability—are analyzed, with solutions proposed via material innovation. The discussion industrial scalability emphasizes chitosan’s biodegradability, cost-effectiveness, alignment sustainable agriculture, while addressing technical bottlenecks. work bridges fundamental research practical use, advancing coatings toward greener, safer, scalable solutions.
