To further demonstrate semiconductor facet effect to photocatalytic organic transformations and address a lack of using simple polyhedral particles for disulfide bond formation, Cu2O cubes, octahedra, rhombic dodecahedra were used photocatalyze aerobic oxidation 4-methylbenzenethiol. After reaction condition optimization, crystals N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) added 4-methylbenzenethiol in ethanol thiol 1,2-di-p-tolyldisulfane under 390 nm light-emitting diode (LED) lamp irradiation just 5 min. Rhombic gave the highest product yield, followed by commercial powder. subsequently employed thiols bearing diverse scope substituents with satisfactory yields. Reactive species trapping experiments performed support plausible mechanism. Semiconductor surface control can be but highly effective strategy enhancing transformations.
