The ambition of human beings to create a comfortable environment for work and life in sustainable way has triggered great need advanced thermal insulation materials past decades. Aerogels foams present prospects as insulators owing their low density, good insulation, mechanical robustness, even high fire resistance. These merits make them suitable many real-world applications, such energy-saving building materials, thermally protective aircrafts battery, warming fabrics. Despite advances, date there remains lack comprehensive yet critical review on the materials. Herein, recent progresses fire-safe thermal-insulating aerogels are summarized, pros/cons three major categories aerogels/foams (inorganic, organic hybrids) discussed. Finally, key challenges associated with existing discussed some future opportunities proposed. This is expected expedite development insulating help sustainable, safe, energy-efficient society.

ABSTRACT Melamine‐modified zinc phytate (PA‐MA‐Zn) was successfully synthesized by the direct precipitation method, and then silicone rubber foams (SiFs) with PA‐MA‐Zn were prepared. The test results showed that could considerably enhance flame retardancy smoke suppression properties of SiFs. Exploring the applicability of next-generation pure organic room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) materials has become a research focus in recent years. Herein, simple strategy for preparing long-lived polymer aerogel temperature sensor with an ordered structure as well thermal insulation was presented. Based on noncovalent interactions between poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and melamine formaldehyde (MF), composite (PVA-MF) excellent stability, extremely low conductivity, outstanding fire safety, favorable mechanical strength constructed. At same time, PVA-MF aerogels doped series small molecules exhibit stable multicolor long-lasting afterglow. In addition, biphenyl 4-carboxylic acid (BPA)-doped also showed enduring water-resistant stability. Surprisingly, after repeated heating cooling cycles, on–off recording via reversible response continuous RTP signal realized. Therefore, self-monitoring tracer function not only promoted development but expanded application sensors.
