Sulfinyl
sulfones,
as
high-valence
sulfurization
reagents,
are
widely
used
to
assemble
sulfur
sources
on
carbon
skeletons,
such
one-,
two-,
and
four-carbon
synthons,
access
organosulfur
compounds.
However,
their
reaction
with
three-carbon
synthons
has
remained
a
mystery
until
now.
We
report
here
radical
1,3-hydrosulfonylation
of
vinyldiazo
compounds
sulfinyl
sulfones.
This
not
only
represents
the
first
example
sulfones
but
also
opens
up
application
in
monofunctionalization.

Highly
functionalized
sulfone
containing
scaffolds
are
ubiquitous
and
attracting
increasing
interest
in
pharmaceutical
agrochemicals
owing
to
their
enhanced
activities.
Herein,
we
present
an
alternative
protocol
access
highly
substituted
sulfones
from
readily
accessible
olefin
feedstocks
sulfinate
salts
through
a
DABSO
enabled
anti-Markovnikov
hydrosulfonylation
process.
Notably,
the
practical
procedure
features
excellent
compatibility
with
various
susceptible
functional
groups
broad
substrate
scope
under
mild
operationally
simple
conditions.
Gram-scale
preparation,
post-functionalization
of
complex
molecules,
applications
synthesis
bioactive
compounds
underscore
potential
drug
discovery.

We
report
an
electrophotocatalytic
process
that
enables
the
thiocyanation
and
sulfonylation/cyclization
of
alkenes.
It
is
applicable
to
a
wide
range
unactivated
alkenes,
using
inexpensive
photocatalyst
2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium
tetrafluoroborate
(TPPT)
produce
diverse
array
heterocycles
containing
sulfonyl
thiocyano
groups
with
good
functional
group
tolerance.
The
protocol
operates
under
mild,
chemical
oxidant-
transition-metal-free,
broad
scope
substrates.
Preliminary
mechanistic
studies
suggest
reaction
involves
combination
electrolysis
reductive
quenching
photocatalytic
cycle
TPPT.
