We report an electrophotocatalytic process that enables the thiocyanation and sulfonylation/cyclization of alkenes. It is applicable to a wide range unactivated alkenes, using inexpensive photocatalyst 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate (TPPT) produce diverse array heterocycles containing sulfonyl thiocyano groups with good functional group tolerance. The protocol operates under mild, chemical oxidant- transition-metal-free, broad scope substrates. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest reaction involves combination electrolysis reductive quenching photocatalytic cycle TPPT.

Sulfinyl sulfones, as high-valence sulfurization reagents, are widely used to assemble sulfur sources on carbon skeletons, such one-, two-, and four-carbon synthons, access organosulfur compounds. However, their reaction with three-carbon synthons has remained a mystery until now. We report here radical 1,3-hydrosulfonylation of vinyldiazo compounds sulfinyl sulfones. This not only represents the first example sulfones but also opens up application in monofunctionalization.

Highly functionalized sulfone containing scaffolds are ubiquitous and attracting increasing interest in pharmaceutical agrochemicals owing to their enhanced activities. Herein, we present an alternative protocol access highly substituted sulfones from readily accessible olefin feedstocks sulfinate salts through a DABSO enabled anti-Markovnikov hydrosulfonylation process. Notably, the practical procedure features excellent compatibility with various susceptible functional groups broad substrate scope under mild operationally simple conditions. Gram-scale preparation, post-functionalization of complex molecules, applications synthesis bioactive compounds underscore potential drug discovery.
