Copper is a trace element indispensable for cellular physiology, integral to redox balance, and constituent of enzyme active sites, thereby playing pivotal role in physiological function. Concerning the pathogenesis Alzheimer’s disease (AD), homeostatic balance copper perturbed both intracellularly extracellularly. The copper–amyloid precursor protein (APP) complex facilitates efflux from cells, leading intracellular depletion. Concurrently, extracellular associates with amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques, precipitating copper-enriched Aβ deposition augmenting reactive oxygen species (ROS) brain tissue, which finally culminates oxidative damage. interaction between APP enhances α-secretase pathway processing while suppressing β-secretase pathway, resulting an increased production soluble (sAPP), contributes neuroinflammation tissue. Utilizing affinity application chelating agents sequester within can mitigate neurodegeneration associated AD pathology. Furthermore, use metal imaging techniques detect offers potential diagnostic tool early identification AD.
