Water molecules pose a significant obstacle to conventional adhesive materials. Nevertheless, some marine organisms can secrete bioadhesives with remarkable adhesion properties. For instance, mussels resist sea waves using byssal threads, sandcastle worms glue construct shelters, and barnacles adhere various surfaces their barnacle cement. This work initially elucidates the process of underwater microstructure in these three exemplary organisms. The formation bioadhesive microstructures is intimately related aquatic environment. Subsequently, mechanisms employed by mussel glue, cement are demonstrated at molecular level. comprehension has promoted biomimetic systems: DOPA-based adhesives inspired chemical composition proteins; polyelectrolyte hydrogels enlightened phase transitions; novel derived from multiple interactions nanofiber-like structures within Underwater continues encounter multifaceted challenges despite notable advancements. Hence, this examines current confronting last part, which provides perspectives directions for future research.
