Melatonin was discovered in plants 1995, and so-called phytomelatonin. Its characteristic qualities as an antioxidant molecule with amphiphilic nature make it excellent candidate to use plant biotechnological techniques. In physiology, melatonin has demonstrated multiple studies great possibilities of application crop improvement aspects such germination, rooting, growth, leaf-senescence, floration, fruit-set, parthenocarpy, fruit ripening cut flower conservation, among others. this work, we reviewed many on the possible role improve different tissue culture goals, them: callus induction its effects biomass production; action inductor or elicitor secondary metabolite generation vitro cultures; interesting a protective agent (safener) against abiotic stressors present potential regulating organogenesis, modulating shooting/rooting responses; at last, relevant material cryopreservation cell transformation using A. tumefaciens have been discussed.

This study presents a pioneering investigation into the use of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) for in vitro rooting ‘Marubakaido’ apple tree rootstocks, marking first report this approach literature. The research evaluates effects four distinct light sources: blue LED (450 nm), red (660 combination and LEDs, traditional fluorescent lamps as control. Mini-cuttings were inoculated Murashige Skoog (MS) medium with reduced nutrient concentrations, supplemented indoleacetic acid (IAA) sucrose. explants incubated under controlled conditions 30 days, enabling comprehensive assessment impact different sources on various growth metrics. results revealed that LEDs significantly enhanced dry mass accumulation seedlings compared to both lamps, demonstrating their superior effectiveness promoting plant growth. not only improves seedling development but also offers economic advantages over lamps. are characterized by high luminous efficiency, low energy consumption, long operational lifespan, which collectively reduce costs production systems. advances understanding light-mediated tissue culture highlights potential combining viable alternative lighting. These findings could revolutionize practices horticulture propagation, providing more efficient sustainable cultivation.

This study investigated the effects of several light spectra on Stevia rebaudiana, analysing growth parameters, yield, and physiological responses within a controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) system. The experimental design involved different treatments, including specific combinations blue (435 nm 450 nm), red (663 ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths (365 to determine their impact morphological development biochemical properties, particularly focusing production sweetening compounds stevioside rebaudioside A. rebaudiana plants cultivated from cuttings sourced reputable UK nursery (Gardener’s Dream Ltd., Glasgow, UK) were subjected these spectral treatments over period five weeks under vertical farming conditions. Physiological measurements, such as chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm), stomatal conductance, leaf temperature, recorded, alongside metrics (plant height, area, biomass). also incorporated high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) quantitatively analyse influence sweetener concentration. results demonstrated that targeted LED spectra, those include UV significantly nhanced both quantitative qualitative attributes stevia growth, indicating strategic management can markedly improve nutritional commercial yields rebaudiana. research contributes optimisation conditions in systems, aiming enhance agricultural efficiency reduce reliance imported by maximising local capabilities.

Stevia rebaudiana (stevia) is a plant in the Asteraceae that contains several biologically active compounds including antidiabetic diterpene glycosides (e.g. stevioside, rebaudioside and dulcoside) can serve as zero-calorie sugar alternatives. In this study, an elicitation strategy was applied using 5% polyethylene glycol (PEG), sodium chloride (NaCl; 50 100 mM) gibberellic acid (2.0 4.0 mg/L GA3) to investigate their effect on shoot morphogenesis, production of phenolics, flavonoids, total soluble sugars, proline well antioxidant activity, cultures S. rebaudiana. Herewith, media supplemented with 2 4 GA3 exhibited highest shooting response (87% 80%). The augmentation lower concentrations (2 mg/L) combination 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) resulted maximum mean length (11.1 cm). addition mM NaCl salts led observed phenolics content (TPC; 4.11 mg/g-DW compared control 0.52 mg/g-DW), flavonoids (TFC; 1.26 mg/g-DW) polyphenolics concentration (5.39 shoots cultured. However, activity (81.8%) raised treated NaCl. application accumulation (0.99 μg/mL) controls (0.37 μg/mL). Maximum stevioside (71 µL/mL) PEG, followed by treatment (70 (60 µL/mL). Positive correlation between content. Notably, these two are derived from shared biochemical pathway. These results suggest effective option enhance steviosides other metabolites provides groundwork for future industrial scale bioreactors.
