Plant-derived selenium is an important source of (Se) for humans, which, however, has been restricted by a low content Se in soil. Traditional fertilizers have tended to result utilization. Thus, it was necessary develop new slow-release material control fertilizer release. In this study, biochar pyrolyzed at 300 °C and 800 cross-linked with polyethyleneimine (PEI) after being treated HNO3 or NaOH (which were labeled Acid-W300, Acid-W800, Alkali-W300, Alkali-W800). The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacities Alkali-W800 329.16 mg/g, 321.93 315.04 344.33 respectively. Among them, Acid-W800 mainly imine- amide-bonded SO32−, while Acid-W300 Alkali-W300 loaded SO32− forming C–Se bonding as well through amide-bonding. release four biochar-based red soil brown extracts conformed pseudo-second-order kinetic model. rate amount extract higher than those extract. Alkali-W800-Se had proportion Se-exchangeable release, accounting 87.5% total selenium, Acid-W300-Se lowest 62.2%. However, releases more 42.49% 37.67% Se-loading capacity during 5 days continuous extraction extraction, released less 20% capacity. recommended

Alkaline fusion is a pivotal process influencing the cost of synthesizing zeolite from coal gangue. This study examined effects alkaline temperature (X1), treatment duration (X2) and NaOH/coal gangue weight ratio (X3) on composition properties products, as well their adsorption capacities for Cd2+ (qe,Cd) Pb2+ (qe,Pb). Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to analyze interactions among these factors, mechanisms were investigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy-EDS, Fourier transform infrared, photoelectron spectroscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption techniques. The results reveal that (1) under optimized conditions–X1 approximately 800 °C, X2 around 2.8 h X3 1.2–the maximum qe,Cd qe,Pb synthesized NaX can reach 181.3 419.9 mg/g, respectively. (2) RSM models indicate increasing value lower required X1. For 150 350 respectively, with fixed at 2 h, 0.976 1.134 0.900 1.289 enables reduction in X1 600 °C. (3) primarily adsorbs through ion exchange, allowing ions enter zeolite's cage structure. also precipitate hydrocerussite (Pb3(CO3)2(OH)2) within channels, while has more significant impact [SiO4] [AlO4] tetrahedra. (4) effectively reduces exchangeable Cd content contaminated soil 3.51 below 1.5 mg/kg. remediation performance Pb water be further enhanced by optimizing its Si/Al pore
