Abstract In this work, a noncoplanar terphenyl served as building block to synthesize novel 3,3′‐substituted bipyridyl ligand ( L1 ) which further reacted with binuclear half‐sandwich units A/B , giving rise two aesthetic 4 1 metalla‐knots in high yields via coordination‐driven self‐assembly strategy. Furthermore, given the inherent compactness of metalla‐knots, it creates favorable conditions for emergence steric repulsion. We focused on progressively introducing nitrogen atoms featuring lone pair electrons (LPEs) into manipulate balance H⋅⋅⋅H/LPEs⋅⋅⋅LPEs repulsion during assembly process, ultimately achieving controlled from pseudo ‐Solomon link and then molecular tweezer‐like facilitated by stacking interactions. All assemblies were well characterized solution‐state NMR techniques, ESI‐TOF/MS, single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. The evolutionary process topological architectures is equivalent visualizing synergistic effect hindrance interactions structural assembly, providing new avenue synthesis different topologies.

Abstract Controlling supramolecular systems between different functional forms by utilizing acids/bases as stimuli is a formidable challenge, especially where labile coordination bonds are involved. A pair of acid/base responsive, interconvertible 1,5‐enedione/pyrylium based Pd 2 L 4 ‐type cages prepared that exhibit differential guest binding abilities towards disulfonates varied sizes. three‐state switch has been achieved, (i) weakly coordinating base induced cage‐to‐cage transformation in the first step, (ii) strongly triggered cage disassembly second and (iii) third step shows acid(strong) promoted generation initial cage, thereby completing cycle. To our surprise, specific disulfonate facilitated transformations inducing strain on assembly opening pyrylium rings cage. Through competitive study, we demonstrated superior capability octacationic pyrylium‐based over similar‐sized tetracationic These results provide reliable approach to reversibly modulate properties acid/base‐responsive self‐assembled cages.

A family of Pd2L4 cages prepared from ligands based on an axially chiral diamino-[1,1′-biazulene] motif (serving as a unique azulene-based surrogate the ubiquitous BINOL moiety) is reported. We show that preparing cage starting racemate shorter bis-monodentate ligand derivative, equipped with pyridine donor groups, leads to integrative ("social") self-sorting, exclusively yielding meso-trans product, but only in selection solvents. This phenomenon driven by individual solvent molecules acting hydrogen bonding tethers between amino groups neighboring ligands, thereby locking final coordination single isomeric form. The experimental (solvent-dependent NMR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction) observations this cooperative interaction could be explained computational analyses when explicit solvation was considered. Furthermore, we larger isoquinoline donors, which, unlike first one, does not undergo social self-sorting its racemic mixture, further highlighting importance solvents bridging short distances groups. Homochiral formed ligand, however, furnish cavity can bind anionic and neutral metal complexes such [Pt(CN)6]2– Cr(CO)6 discriminate two enantiomers guest camphor sulfonate.
