EFL teachers’ perceptions of emotional exhaustion and associated regulation strategies: a phenomenological analysis DOI

Teaching, particularly in a second/foreign language (L2) context, is an emotionally demanding profession, often leading to negative outcomes for educators. To fill the gap, this phenomenological study examined causes, consequences, and regulation strategies of Chinese EFL teachers' emotional exhaustion. A semi-structured interview was held with 58 teachers. The results thematic analysis revealed that state had different causes consequences. most frequent were 'occupational pressures', 'identity conflicts mismatches', 'stressful classroom climate', 'high expectations', 'students' poor performance cooperation'. Abstract Job satisfaction has long been discussed as an important factor determining individual behavior at work. To what extent this relationship is also evident in the teaching profession especially relevant given manifold job tasks and tremendous responsibility teachers bear for development of their students. From a theoretical perspective, teachers’ should be negatively related to turnover intentions absenteeism, positively high-quality teacher-student interactions (i.e., emotional support, classroom management, instructional support), enhanced student motivation, achievement. This research synthesis provides comprehensive overview between these variables. A systematic literature search yielded 105 records. Random-effects meta-analyses supported theoretically postulated relationships intentions, interactions, students’ outcomes. Effects were significant not only self-reports professional performance, but external reports. On basis synthesis, we discuss theoretical, conceptual, methodological considerations that inform future prospective intervention approaches.

Abstract: The aim of the present study is to examine if teachers’ professional beliefs accounted for differences in self-reported instructional quality distance learning during COVID-19 pandemic. N = 194 German mathematics teachers were surveyed pandemic 2021 about their (potential cognitive activation, support, management time). Background This study investigates the nuanced experiences of faculty members in higher education institutions during and after COVID-19 pandemic. Introduction Digital health literacy (DHL) is a key competency for individuals’ daily decisions toward their behavior and wellbeing.
