Abstract Objectives How does creative expression change across the life span? Although creativity is generally preserved well into adulthood, certain cognitive functions, such as episodic detail and ideational fluency, have been shown to decline with age. The present study employs computational linguistic analyses investigate salient features of writing in older adults. Methods We collected short stories from a sample 50 adults (age 65≤) which were subsequently rated for by an independent set participants. Mixed-effects linear regression models used describe semantic diversity perceptual details predictors creativity. Semantic reflects extent narrative connects divergent ideas closely associated Perceptual details, characterized sensorial descriptions, previously may serve transport readers alternative times places. Additionally, we compare these measures younger Results indicate that presence significant positive (p < .05). Moreover, find written contain fewer compared Discussion These results advance our understanding age-related changes highlight potential role simulation stories.

Successful problem-solving and enhanced creative ability may improve physical health, cognitive well-being, overall independence of older adults. In general, adults who are more creative, be better able to cope with decline navigate everyday tasks. While previous research on performance in adulthood showed age-related stability, open questions remain regarding the specific underlying basis for this invariability across lifespan. Mediation analyses that intelligence measures served as mechanisms stability thinking age. The broader implications these findings provide insight into complex relationships supporting preservation creativity.

Not much is known about how one's understanding of words may differ with age. Here we explore epistemic adverbs - as used in health communication to indicate degrees uncertainty and risk are understood by older younger monolingual speakers Australian English. We an online dissimilarity rating task sentence pairs presented first second doctor opinions which differed only respect the embedded (e.g., This could certainly cause some cramps vs. possibly cramps). To evaluate possible effect age, compared ratings English monolinguals (aged ≥55 (n = 24) aged 18-50 57), respectively). The data were interpreted using classical Multi-Dimensional Scaling (C-MDS) analysis, complemented cultural consensus analysis hierarchical cluster analysis. Analyses revealed intragroup for each speaker group. Both groups clustered hearsay (apparently, presumably, reportedly, supposedly) similarly, showed a similar probably, reflected unique albeit least stable cluster. Interestingly, their high confidence likelihood. While they all likely together, also included certainly. Our differences speakers, suggesting that, between generations, there subtle changes degree certainty associated certainly). Abstract Categorization is a dynamic cognitive process that organizes human knowledge. As such, categorization processes are integral of the linguistic system and primarily manifested in conceptual categories represented semantic memory. Linguistic theory has proposed various models to describe nature structure categories. This paper reviews traditional definitions four types (natural or taxonomic, ad hoc, radial scripts) from complex network paradigm. The networks have been constructed fluency task ( Animals, Objects laid on table, Games Countryside ) involving 680 native Spanish speakers. Both its dynamics analysed, remarking by which speakers create through their performance. For this purpose, mathematical measures were employed, new more precisely distinguish between results support principles description, expanding refining properties different Furthermore, they highlight importance fine-grained modularity as key interpreting differences
