Cost-effective treatment or even valorization of the bauxite residue (red mud) from alumina industry is in demand to improve their environmental and economic liabilities. This study proposes a strategy that provides near-complete conversion valuable products. The first step involves dilute acid leaching, which allowed fractionation raw residues into (1) an aqueous fraction rich silica aluminium (2) solid iron, titanium rare earth elements. For proposed process, 91% original silicon, 67% aluminium, 78% scandium 69% cerium were recovered. initial cost evaluation suggested this approach profitable with gross margin 167 $US per tonne. "Residue2Product" should be considered for large-scale practices as one most economical sustainable solutions liability industry.
