Summary The study of crop evolution has focused primarily on the process initial domestication. Post‐domestication adaptation during expansion crops from their centers origin received considerably less attention. Recent research revealed that, in at least some instances, have introgression wild relatives that facilitated to novel conditions encountered expansion. Such adaptive could an important impact basic domestication, affecting estimates several evolutionary processes interest (e.g. strength domestication bottleneck, timing targets selection domestication). Identification haplotypes introgressed may also help identification alleles are beneficial under particular environmental conditions. Here we review mounting evidence for substantial and consider implications such gene flow our understanding histories.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is an important security crop that faces severe yield loses due to cassava brown streak disease (CBSD). Motivated by the slow progress of conventional breeding, genetic improvement undergoing rapid change implementation quantitative trait loci mapping, Genome-wide association mapping (GWAS), and genomic selection (GS). In this study, two breeding panels were genotyped for SNP markers using genotyping sequencing phenotyped foliar CBSD root symptoms at five locations in Uganda. Our GWAS study found regions associated CBSD, one on chromosome 4 which co-localizes with a Manihot glaziovii introgression segment 11, contains cluster nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) genes. We evaluated potential GS improve resistance assessing accuracy seven prediction models. Predictive values varied between severity traits 3 months after planting (MAP) (0.27-0.32), 6 MAP (0.40-0.42) (0.31-0.42). For all traits, Random Forest reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces regression showed highest predictive accuracies. results provide insight into genetics guide marker-assisted highlight breeding.
