Abstract We have known for nearly a century that triggering seizures can treat serious mental illness, but what we do not know is why. Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) works faster and better than conventional pharmacological interventions; however, those benefits come with burden of side effects, most notably memory loss. Disentangling the mechanisms by which ECT exerts rapid therapeutic benefit from driving adverse effects could enable development next generation seizure therapies lack downside ECT. The latest research suggests this goal may be attainable because modifications technique already yielded improvements in cognitive outcomes without sacrificing efficacy. These involve changes how electricity administered (both where brain, much), turn impacts characteristics resulting seizure. What completely understand whether it applied electricity, or seizure, both, are responsible improved safety. Answering question key to developing these ushering novel interventions better, faster, safer

Abstract Chronic neuropathic pain is a debilitating neuroplastic disorder that notably impacts the quality of life millions people worldwide. This complex condition, encompassing various manifestations, such as sciatica, diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia, arises from nerve damage or malfunctions in processing pathways involves biological, physiological psychological processes. Maladaptive neuroplasticity, known central sensitization, plays critical role persistence chronic pain. Current treatments for include pharmacological interventions (for example, antidepressants anticonvulsants), invasive procedures deep brain stimulation) physical therapies. However, these approaches often have limitations potential side effects. In light challenges, interest noninvasive neuromodulation techniques alternatives complementary increasing. These methods aim to induce analgesia while reversing maladaptive plastic changes, offering advantages over conventional practices methods. Recent technological advancements spurred exploration therapies, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, direct current stimulation ultrasound well innovative transformations into at both preclinical clinical levels. Here this review aims critically examine mechanisms neuroplasticity evaluate efficacy relief. By focusing on optimizing techniques, we can better assess their short-term long-term effects, refine treatment variables ultimately improve management.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease associated with physical disability, psychological impairment, and cognitive dysfunctions. Consequently, the burden substantial, treatment choices are limited. In this randomized, double-blind study, we conducted repeated prefrontal electrical stimulation in 40 patients MS to evaluate mental health variables (quality of life, sleep difficulties, distress) dysfunctions (psychomotor speed, working memory, attention/vigilance), marking it as third largest sample size tDCS research date.

Objective.Recently developed magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs) provide a potential tool to enable different biomedical applications. They could be used overcome the intrinsic constraints posed by traditional neurostimulation techniques, namely invasiveness of electrodes-based limited spatial resolution, and scarce efficiency magnetic stimulation.Approach.By using computational electromagnetic we modelled behaviour recently designed biocompatible MENPs injected, in shape clusters, specific cortical targets highly detailed anatomical head model. The distributions tissue penetration electric fields induced clusters each will compared transcranial stimulation (TMS) coils for non-invasive brain positioned on left prefrontal cortex (PFC) model.Main results.MENPs can induce focused with amplitude close neural activation threshold all tissues interest treatment most neuropsychiatric disorders. Conversely, TMS several tens V m-1over broad volume PFC, but they are unlikely able efficiently stimulate even small volumes subcortical deep tissues.Significance.Our numerical results suggest that use may potentially led future pinpoint neuropshychiatric disorders, which an impairment activity networks has been assumed play crucial role.
