BACKGROUND Demand for adolescent mental health services has surged in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic, and traditional models care entailing in-person with licensed providers are inadequate to meet demand. However, research shown that proper training supervision mentors can work youth challenges like depression anxiety even support use evidence-based strategies cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In our increasingly connected world, young people on a web-based platform at their convenience, reducing barriers care. Moreover, internet made CBT skills addressing more accessible than ever. As such, when trained supervised by clinicians, an untapped resource challenges. OBJECTIVE The objective this study was develop assess feasibility acceptability Appa Health (Appa), mentoring program experiencing symptoms anxiety. This paper describes development, pilot testing process, preliminary quantitative qualitative outcomes Appa’s 12-week smartphone app which combines near-peer mentorship short-form TikTok-style videos teaching created professionals who also social media influencers. METHODS development processes were executed through collaboration key stakeholders, including clinical advisory boards. study, assessed or using standard self-report measures: Patient Questionnaire-8 Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 scales. Teenagers endorsing (n=14) paired mentor (n=10) based preferred characteristics such as gender, race ethnicity, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) status. Quantitative survey data about teenagers’ characteristics, health, combined assessing perspectives program, mentors, content. RESULTS Participants reported finding helpful, 100% teenagers expressing they felt better after program. Over 85% (n=12) said would strongly recommend friend. engaged, video chatting consistently over 12 weeks. Objectives: Binge spectrum disorders are prevalent worldwide. Psychiatric and medical comorbidities common, societal costs significant. Evidence-based treatment remains underutilized. Cognitive behavioral therapy is the recommended first-line treatment, but pharmacotherapy may be easier to access. Interventions: Meta-analytic evidence directly comparing cognitive with lacking. We aimed compare effects of interventions any pharmacological for binge disorders. searched PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, ClinicalTrials.gov reference lists randomized controlled trials bulimia nervosa/binge eating disorder performed pairwise meta-analytic evaluations. Primary Outcomes: outcomes remission frequency binges. Secondary purges, response, psychopathology, weight/body mass index, depression, anxiety, quality life dropouts. Results: Eleven fluoxetine/imipramine/desipramine/methylphenidate/sibutramine were identified ( N = 531). was superior antidepressants in terms remission, binges psychopathology. There no statistically significant differences individual vs drug comparisons response/depression/anxiety/weight/quality life/dropouts. not sibutramine/methylphenidate primary outcomes. Conclusions: Data scarce, underpowered and, considering inherent methodological limitations psychotherapy trials, questions arise regarding presumed superiority therapy. Further research needed.

Abstract Purpose Medication poisoning is the most common method of self‐harm. Longitudinal studies incorporating pre‐ and post‐COVID‐19 pandemic data are required to describe phenomenon evaluate long‐term impact on mental health. Methods Calls Poison Control Center Policlinico Umberto I Hospital ‐ Sapienza University Rome, Italy, were analyzed retrospectively for characteristics clinical presentation cases interest from January 2018 December 2022. Results A total 756 self‐harm by medication poisonings recorded in study period. reduction rate 2020 was followed a return pre‐pandemic levels 2021. When separately analyzing single‐ multi‐agent cases, occurrence involving just one increased since early 2021, with peak 2022 (7.8% calls, 95% CI 6.2–9.5, 4.9%, 4.1–5.8 2018). This increase mostly none or mild severity, driven youth aged 12–21, which relative proportion versus showed an increasing trend (from 42.6% 78.6% 2022). Acetaminophen frequently involved benzodiazepines largest class. psychiatric background increasingly seen 2022, especially age group 12–21. Conclusion Single‐agent may be prevailing phenomenon. Young adolescents might vulnerable this behavior COVID‐19 aftermath. Healthcare professionals should expect favorable outcome improve both counseling psychotherapy supervision individuals at risk.
