Abstract Land system intensification has substantially enhanced crop production; however, it also created soil antibiotic pollution, undermining production. Here, we projected pollution risks to production at multiple geographical scales in China and linked them land (including arable expansion input increase). Our projections suggest that will decrease when the risk quotient exceeds 8.30–9.98. systems explain most of variability (21–66%) across spatial scales. The convex nonlinearities tradeoffs between indicate vegetable wheat have higher thresholds which risk–yield peak than do maize rice study suggests below minimum is required for acceptable related yield reduction.

Forest biomass allocation is a direct manifestation of biological adaptation to environmental changes. Studying the distribution patterns forest along elevational gradients ecologically significant for understanding specific impacts global change on plant resource strategies. While aboveground has been extensively studied, research belowground remains relatively limited. Furthermore, and driving factors proportion (BGBP) are still unclear. In this study, we investigated influences climatic factors, soil nutrients, key leaf traits pattern BGBP using data from 926 forests at 94 sites across China. were calculated root depth 50 cm. Our findings indicate considerable variability in macro scale, showing increasing trend (p < 0.01). significantly decreases with temperature precipitation increases annual mean evapotranspiration (MAE) It phosphorus content pH Key (leaf nitrogen (LN) (LP)) positively correlated BGBP. Climatic (R2 = 0.46) have strongest explanatory power variation elevations, while 0.10) 0.08) also play roles. Elevation directly indirectly through influencing such as climate conditions, nutrient availability, traits, effects being more pronounced than indirect effects. This study reveals controlling forests’ gradients, providing vital ecological insights into impact strategies offering scientific guidance ecosystem management conservation.

Abstract Long-term active restoration is often employed to restore degraded grasslands. The establishment of a viable soil seed bank the key successful restoration, as it enhances resilience vegetation. Abstract The soil seed bank represents valuable rebuilding capital that may rescue an ecosystem from state transition once vegetation has crossed apparent threshold the desired to degraded state. However, almost no research explored response of transient and persistent banks their role in plant community regeneration along a gradient wetlands intact seriously due increased grazing disturbance. Seven disturbance levels nondisturbed highly alpine marsh ecosystems were selected on eastern Tibetan Plateau. Akaike information criterion (AIC) was used select best‐fit model predict community, Bray–Curtis dissimilarity index Both showed nonlinear change with increasing Species richness density first decreased then disturbance, but reverse trend, obvious threshold. composition exhibited little compared as increased. Similarities between both also while had higher similarity than bank. Synthesis : At high are more important regeneration. Alpine wetland have intrinsic resilience because pool species above declines if is depleted below restoration potential limits, it will gradually be exhausted when losses intensity exceed transition.

Abstract Climate‐smart agriculture (CSA) supports the sustainability of crop production and food security, benefiting soil carbon storage. Despite critical importance microorganisms in cycle, systematic investigations on influence CSA microbial necromass its driving factors are still limited. We evaluated 472 observations from 73 peer‐reviewed articles to show that, compared conventional practice, generally increased concentrations by 18.24%. These benefits carbon, as assessed amino sugar biomarkers, complex influenced a variety soil, climatic, spatial, biological factors. Changes living biomass most significant predictor total, fungal, bacterial affected CSA; 61.9%–67.3% paired observations, measures simultaneously carbon. Land restoration nutrient management therein largely promoted storage, while cover has minor effect. Additionally, effects were directly elevation mean annual temperature, indirectly texture initial organic content. In optimal scenario, potential global accrual rate through is approximately 980 Mt C year −1 , assuming amendment included following conservation tillage appropriate land restoration. conclusion, our study suggests that increasing provides vital way mitigating loss. Abstract Anthropogenic nutrient enrichment and shifts in herbivory can lead to dramatic changes the composition diversity of aboveground plant communities. In turn, this alter seed banks soil, which are cryptic reservoirs diversity. Here, we use data from seven Nutrient Network grassland sites on four continents, encompassing a range climatic environmental conditions, test joint effects fertilization mammalian similarity between communities banks. We find that decreases species richness banks, homogenizes bank Fertilization increases abundance especially presence herbivores, while effect is smaller absence herbivores. Our findings highlight weaken maintaining mechanism grasslands, needs be considered when assessing abundance.
