Over the last decades, aquaculture production increased rapidly. The future development of industry highly relies on sustainable utilization natural resources. need for improving disease resistance, growth performance, food conversion, and product safety human consumption has stimulated application probiotics in aquaculture. Probiotics increase feed improve health status, raise decrease stress susceptibility, general vigor. Currently, most still originate from terrestrial sources rather than fish. However, host-associated (autochthonous) are likely more persistent gastrointestinal tract fish may, therefore, exhibit longer-lasting effects host. Abstract Gut microbiota plays a critical role in the maintenance of host health. As low-cost and genetically tractable vertebrate model, zebrafish have been widely used for biological research. Zebrafish humans share some similarities intestinal physiology function, this allows to be surrogate model investigating crosstalk between gut host. The importance of the gut microbiome in management various physiological activities including healthy growth and performance fish shellfish is now widely considered being studied detail for potential applications aquaculture farming future industry. all animals associated with a number beneficial functions host, such as stimulating optimal gastrointestinal development, producing supplying vitamins to improving host's nutrient uptake by providing additional enzymatic activities. While many studies have reported that the structure of gut and skin microbiota is driven by both species-specific habitat-specific factors, relative importance host-specific versus environmental factors in wild vertebrates remains poorly understood. The aim this study was to determine diversity composition fish skin, gut, surrounding water bacterial communities (hereafter referred as microbiota) assess extent which host habitat phylogeny predict similarity. Skin swabs samples from 334 belonging 17 species were sampled three Laurentian Great Lakes (LGLs) habitats (Detroit River, Lake Erie, Ontario). The establishment of the early-life gut microbiota plays an important role in fish development and influences host's health status growth performance. Different rearing conditions can impact initial colonization microbiota, while addition probiotics may also affect such colonization. However, how this larvae survival remains largely unexplored. In study, 3-day old Nile tilapia embryos were hatched until 9 days post fertilization (dpf) three systems, including one flow-through system (FTS) two identical recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). When feeding started at 10 dpf, FTS RAS fed with a control diet, second diet coated B. subtilis spores (RASB). trial lasted 26 days, from to fry stage, during which survival, performance analyzed. reared showed significantly lower than those RASB, no differences observed apparent feed conversion ratio between treatments. resulted different compositions, strongly correlated rate standard body length harvest. Cetobacterium was enriched barely detected FTS-reared fry. Probiotic supplementation increased relative abundance beneficial Bacillus gut. Our findings indicate that supports better compared FTS, dietary probiotic further modulates bacterial composition stimulates presence bacteria early life.

Abstract Background Fish gut microbial colonisation starts during larval stage and plays an important role in host’s growth health. To what extent first could influence the microbiome succession later life remains unknown. In this study, Nile tilapia embryos were incubated two different environments, a flow-through system (FTS) biofloc (BFS); hatched larvae subsequently cultured systems for 14 days of feeding (dof). then transferred to one common recirculating aquaculture (RAS1, garden, 15–62 dof), followed by trial another RAS (RAS2, trial, 63–105 dof). RAS2, fish fed with types diet, differing non-starch polysaccharide content. Our aim was test effect rearing environment on development, nutrient digestibility performance post-larvae stages. Results Larvae BFS showed better microbiome, compared FTS. After still differences species composition, while body weight similar. Long-term effects early history digestibility, nitrogen energy balances not observed. Still, BFS-reared had more interactions than FTS-reared fish. A temporal observed although distinct number core remained present throughout experimental period. Conclusion results indicated that legacy gradually disappeared host no composition after culture environment. However, exposure consistently increased juvenile might possibly benefit

Fish represent a large part of the taxonomic diversity vertebrates and are high commercial value. However, factors influencing gut microbiota composition freshwater fish over spatial scales remain unclear. Therefore, this study explored microbiome in 24 species from Yellow River, which spans 1500 km across China. The results showed that geographical distance, host phylogeny diet significantly influenced microbial community diversity, whereas sex, body length weight had minimal influence. Geographical distance was primary factor shaping microbiota, dissimilarity structure increased with an increase mainly driven by dispersal limitation. communities were more homogeneous at higher resolutions due to dominant role selection convergence. Phylosymbiosis observed all species, stronger pattern Cypriniformes, harbour host-specific taxa. Host explained little variation although it significant for metrics tested. These findings collectively suggest host-based patterns tend be shaped different ecological forces River. present work provides robust assessment multiple driving assembly offers insight into mechanisms underlying shifts rivers scales.
