Although the link between alcohol involvement and behavioral phenotypes (e.g. impulsivity, negative affect, executive function [EF]) is well-established, directionality of these associations, specificity to stages involvement, extent shared genetic liability remain unclear. We estimate longitudinal associations transitions among milestones, phenotypes, indices risk.

Some believe certain racial groups are associated with specific behaviors, like homicide, drug dealing, and use. It is unclear if these perceptions connected or culpability as offender victim for behaviors also racialized. The present study examines of people's involvement in related criminal behaviors. Using semi-structured interviews, data were gathered from men women (n=32) living 15 contiguous neighborhoods a mid-sized city the northeastern US. All area experienced effects opioid epidemic repercussions subsidized public housing policy changes, some had high levels violent crimes. Interview analyzed using thematic content analysis applying iterative, open coding techniques to identify themes recurrent concepts across participants. Findings show that respondents viewed Black persons engaged homicides dealers offenders white use victims. Crimes attributed people contextualized problem among gang members receiving housing. Applying threat hypothesis, findings implications research on racialized victims discussed within an attribution theory framework.

Abstract Alcohol use disorders (AUDs) are complex phenomena governed by genetics, neurophysiology, environment, and societal structures. New methods to understand the underlying neurogenetics valuable for designing personalised interventional strategies. Here, we used a novel, two-choice self-administration zebrafish assay (SAZA) isolate function of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunit alpha3 ( chrna3 ) in alcohol response. Juvenile exhibited biphasic response when self-administering that transitioned from attraction aversion within minutes, suggesting they can regulate exposure alcohol. This inverted U-shaped mirrored effect has on shoaling behaviour. Exposure low concentration reduced anxiety-like behaviours, while sedative effects became prominent at higher concentrations resulting locomotion uncoordinated swimming. In contrast, these responses blunted mutants. They exhibit prolonged self-administration, increased gregariousness. Transcriptomic analyses suggest glutamatergic GABAergic neurotransmission alongside cholinergic signalling is impacted mutant brains. Our results thus dysfunction systemic change with an increase tolerance being one effect. These findings also highlight non-rodent alternatives development AUD. Substance use shortens lifespan, impedes health, and accelerates the biological aging process. We found widespread genetic correlations between alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, opioid disorders with indices of across lifespan. There was evidence tobacco alcohol causally impacting physical, cognitive, aging, effects being more dependent on quantity consumption; reverse causality scant.
