Abstract Egypt observes one of the highest water budget deficits in Africa that is mainly compensated by intensive reuse untreated agricultural drainage Nile Delta. The implications on increasing soil pollution levels remain poorly characterized; however, a large‐scale can compromise crop production and quality. To address this deficiency, we evaluate level heavy metal Delta, identify its sources explore damming concentration using integrated indicators statistical modeling. Pollution show moderate to very high contamination Pb, Ni, Cr, Cd, Cu, Zn, with unprecedented Cd sediments (up 72.0 ppm) northward increase levels. Statistical modeling historical datasets reveal association Fe both branches clustering Zn which attribute concentrations cumulative addition (9.5 BCM/yr) wastewater. These processes introduced an accelerated Delta system. Though, conservation measures are crucial reverse degradation, yet increasingly engineered flow, low gradient delta active silting impede flushing causing irreversible pollution. Abstract The low‐lying, arid coastal regions of the Southern Mediterranean Basin, extending over 4,600 km, face daunting sea level rise and hydroclimatic changes due to shifting weather patterns. impact these factors on urban buildings infrastructure must be better understood. Alexandria, a historic densely populated port city in Egypt representative several towns Mediterranean, has experienced 280 building collapses along its shorelines past two decades, root causes are still under investigation. We examine decadal drivers city's coastline using photogrammetric satellite images from 1974 2021. explore interconnectivity between shoreline retreat, ground subsidence, collapses. Our results suggest that correlated with severe erosion driven by sediment imbalances resulting decades inefficient landscape management expansion waterfront. Abstract The West African coastal population and ecosystems are increasingly exposed to a multitude of hazards. These likely be exacerbated by global climate change direct impacts from local human activities. Our ability understand changes has been limited an incomplete understanding the processes difficulty obtaining detailed data. Recent advances in satellite techniques have made it possible obtain rich data sets that provide solid foundation for improving adaptation strategies humanity increasing resilience sustainable development. In this article, we review layout current socio-environmental challenges together with key parameters can monitored several management programs rely on monitor indicators at regional level. social, technical scientific problems difficulties hinder interest practitioners decision-makers use identified. The eastern Mediterranean basin is witnessing increased storm activity impacting populous urban coastal areas that historically were not prone to catastrophic flooding. In the fall of 2023, Storm Daniel struck coast Libya, causing unprecedented flash floods with a tragic death toll and large-scale infrastructure damages.
