Throughout the years, experiments with membrane, electrochemical, biological and thermal technologies have been explored to recover resources from a range of wastewaters such as municipal, industrial, urine sewage sludge. However, multiple resource recoveries at commercial pilot scale are still lacking, instead, focusing on specialising recovery narrow set products. Herein, divergence across municipal industrial wastewater streams – nutrients energy for municipal; heavy metals water streams; material seen both was observed through literature review. This review aims provide perspective academic professionals alike current available their emerging trends tie in these circular economics. Consequently, high sludge transportation costs may pressure treatment plants (WWTPs) adopt value-adding, onsite transforming centralised decentralised WWTPs into facilities.

Membrane fouling is a major challenge which limits the sustainable application of membrane filtration-based microalgal harvesting at industrial level. leads to increased operational and maintenance costs represents obstacle downstream processing. Nano-clays are promising naturally occurring nanoparticles in fabrication due their low-cost, facile preparation, superior properties terms surface hydrophilicity, mechanical stability, resistance against chemicals. The modification using nano-clays approach improve membranes resistance. However, positive effects nano-clay particles on often limited by aggregation poor adhesion base polymeric matrix. This review surveys recent efforts achieve anti-fouling behavior with fillers. Further, strategies better incorporation polymer matrix summarised, factors that govern fouling, adhesion, agglomeration leaching discussed depth.

Using biochar to remove phosphorus (P) from wastewater has the potential improve surface water quality and recycle recovered P as a fertilizer. In this research, effects of iron modification on sorption behavior molecular characterization two different biochars an activated carbon were studied. A produced cow manure anaerobic digest fibers (AD) pyrolyzed under NH 3 gas had greatest phosphate capacity (2300 mg/kg), followed by (AC) (1500 then coniferous forest biomass (BN) (300 mg/kg). Modifying AC with 2% mass increased capacities BN 2000 mg/kg 2300 mg/kg, but decreased AD 1700 mg/kg. Molecular analysis using K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy indicated that calcium minerals predominant species in unmodified biochar. However, Fe-modified biochars, XANES data suggest was sorbed P-Fe-biochar ternary complexes. Phosphorus more available for release (greater than 35% total released) (less 1%). Iron 3% its content, biochar, 1% after Fe modification. Results provide fundamental information needed advance use treatment processes recover it recycling slow-release soil
