ABSTRACT This study aims to uncover the characteristics of land use/cover (LULC) changes over a macro‐scale and long‐term period, as well assess their associated ecological risks. LULC are closely tied environmental processes such climate change, biodiversity, soil conservation, water purification. With global population growth urbanization, have left significant footprint. To achieve UN's Sustainable Development Goals, understanding negative impacts is essential. employs GIS spatial models analyze spatiotemporal evolution in Belt Road Initiative (BRI) countries post‐BRI proposal, using remote sensing monitoring InVEST model. During ancient Silk living production spaces occupied only 2.15% area. By 2013, this had expanded 12.98% due agricultural growth, notably central India Eastern European Plain. From 2013 2021, continued increase, while decreased, with notable expansions southeastern coastal China, Java, Mediterranean. Post‐BRI, led decreased quality risks landscape fragmentation, carbon emissions, nitrogen eutrophication, but increased habitat degradation, erosion, phosphorus eutrophication.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) constitutes a critical component of reservoirs within terrestrial ecosystems. The ramifications urban land use transitions on SOC dynamics, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions such as Shanghai, remain insufficiently elucidated. This investigation synergizes predictive change model (Logistic-CA-Markov) with an ecosystem service quantification framework (InVEST), aiming to delineate the interplay between variability and Land Use Cover Change (LUCC) under natural development ecological protection scenarios. Empirical observations from 2010 2020 reveal contraction Shanghai’s agricultural 34,912.76 hectares, juxtaposed expansion built-up areas 36,048.24 hectares. Projections for 2030 scenario indicate moderated sprawl, reducing area by 13,518 hectares relative scenario. Notably, net sequestration capacity Shanghai is anticipated diminish approximately 0.418 million tons 2030. trend observed both considered scenarios, forecasting cumulative reduction stocks exceeding 1 pathway portends more pronounced accelerated depletion reserves. Although conservation measures show potential decelerate this loss, they appear insufficient reverse ongoing decline stocks. study advocates strategic planning interventions focused constraining growth building densities augmenting preservation management eco-lands. Such are imperative bolstering capacity.

Rich resources and fragile ecosystems of estuaries are increasingly impacted by land use cover (LULC). However, previous studies habitat quality (HQ) typically do not model the impact LULC in Southeast Asian estuaries. Here, we used Integrated Valuation Environmental Services Trade-offs (InVEST) Patch-generating Land-Use Simulation (PLUS) to assess predict HQ degradation Johor River Estuary (JRE) from 1989 2047. Habitat contribution rate (HQCR) was quantify land-use changes on HQ. We analyzed correlation spatio-temporal HQ, respectively. Our forecasts show (1) Construction expanding more than 10 times (2) increases slightly followed a continuous decrease index (HQI). (3) Degradation HQI forests, agricultural land, residential expansion reclamation. (4) Population growth, economic development, national development policies may pose significant future threats water, marine traffic River. results that affect JRE should integrate impacts natural human factors changes.

Abstract Riverine ecosystems supply humans with a variety of ecosystem services (ESs), but anthropogenic activities endanger their availability worldwide. Understanding the spatiotemporal characteristics riverine ESs and identifying primary driving forces behind various are crucial for preserving regional ecological security achieving sustainability. The study examines spatio-temporal changes from 2000 to 2022 in Danro River Basin Jharkhand four essential Ecosystem Services (ES): Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR), Nutrient (NDR), Habitat Quality Monitoring (HQM) Carbon Storage (CS), using InVEST model, Land Use Dynamics Index Correspondence analysis. is tributary Ganges basin affected by sand mining. Key results were: (1) A rise soil erosion was observed due transformation agricultural land into urban areas; (2) phosphorous nitrogen retention higher as compared forest (3) habitat quality body showed degradation during 2020; (4) area can sequester 2128304.92 Mg Carbon; (5) use dynamic index (K) indicated that bare ground experienced greatest impact, value -0.021. uncovered complex relationships between changes, emphasizing tradeoffs synergies laying stress on holistic management strategies balance leverage synergies. findings provide valuable insights decision-making socio-environmental processes. Other regions missing meteorological, hydrological, geological data may also benefit applying model localized parameters.

The Songnen Plain of Northeast China is one the three largest soda saline–alkaline regions in world. To better understand soil alkalinization this important agricultural region China, it vital to explore driving factors alkalinity. Combined with prior research on Wuyu’er–Shuangyang River Basin, study examined alkalinity using Geodetector method. First, analysis results risk detector, factor and ecological detector revealed primary area. Next, interaction determined how combinations impacted In general, natural altitude spring temperature, especially altitude, played a key role alkalinization. These indicated that closed terrain warming trends were main causes addition, there significant enhance-nonlinear enhance-bivariate relationships among factors, which combined contributed more than individual factors.

Urban canopy coverage (UTCC) is a measure that reflects both the quantity and quality of urban green spaces. Understanding how UTCC responds to urbanization crucial for developing comprehensive strategies achieve sustainable urbanization. Our study presented framework understanding response changes process coupling state, transition, drivers. Using high-resolution remote sensing interpretation data in 2002–2013–2019, we examined spatiotemporal heterogeneity comparative characteristics status indicators, transition factors within Beijing's area 2002–2013 2013–2019. These indicators included annual change (AUTCCPC), mean patch size (AMPSC), Euclidean minimum distance (AEmnC), loss (UTCCloss), gain (UTCCgain), stability index (UTCCSI), impermeable surface proportion (P_IMP), road density (D_ROAD), population (D_POP), from center (DIS_UC). The findings indicated "deceleration balance" trend 2002 2019. proportion, size, connectivity, continued increase, accompanied by deceleration increasing rate. spatial distribution shifted ring gradient pattern balanced pattern. impacted most were P_IMP D_Road. interaction impact intensity between was enhanced, with ∩ D_READ DIS_UC having substantial on changes. unveiled phased process, providing theoretical foundation "how promote more effective planning during rapid development" aiding planners/managers implementing forest management.
