Polygonatum, a widely recognized medicinal and edible plant, exhibits several confirmed biological activities holds significant market potential. Numerous studies have identified polysaccharides are one of the primary bioactive components in rhizomes Polygonatum. Our previous research notable presence fructo-oligosaccharides Polygonatum sibiricum, highlighting its largely overlooked potential as natural source compounds. Therefore, more systematic comprehensive analysis water-soluble carbohydrates across different species plant parts is essential. The aim this study was to investigate carbohydrate composition four species, focusing on rhizomes, roots, leaves, stems, fruits. In particular, we utilized self-established method for determination fructo-oligosaccharides. results indicated small amounts mono/disaccharides polysaccharides, well considerable quantity rhizome, root, fruit low-molecular-weight glycans predominant Mill. spp., comprising over 80% total soluble carbohydrates, with contributing approximately 11%, less than 10%. offers valuable insights meaningful basis excavation functional resources
